I miss the fact that my Freelander has no fog lights fitted, made worse by the fact that the driving lights are higher than in a normal car. It is an 03 plate Td4, so the factory kit is no longer available. Does anybody know of a neat solution available without the use of ironmongery visible on the front.

Do you mean to fit lights to be used as fog lights?
You could possibly fit lights in the lower grill wired up to the switch for the fog lights. Im not sure how much the lights would effect the cooling of the car but would have thought that small lights would not cause much of a problem (but im no expert so its your own judgement).

I want to be able to use them as genuine fog lamps i.e. I can extinguish the dip beam of the main headlamps if appropriate. This is to overcome the high position of the headlamps as these produce a lot of reflection from fog. In order to be able to do this legally they must be within 400mm of the outside edge of the vehicle and below 1200mm. I always thought this second value included below the bumper line but apparently not. In practice I want them much lower as they are only really effective when they are below the fog layer which is typically 300-600mm above the ground.

What I am really looking for is something like an eyeball mount similar to some domestic downlighters to accomodate the sloping valance and still point the lights at the correct angle. I might have to try and design something myself but I want it to look neat, not my forte.
