Fog lamps have been added to my P38 just before I bought it.
The switch works ok when pressed it displays the green light telling me the lamps are on, but they aint.
The fog lamps are wired into the harness ok but cant find in manual which plug it should connect to in becm under drivers seat.
Should the becm also have had to be programed up to tell it the fog lamps are now there.
Also hevac light on passenger side has gone off aswell as heated screens switch illumination, is this easy to replace bulbs if so how do you get to them?

dont know about the hevac lights but as far as fogs concerned if they wired into origonal loom have they had a fuse fitted? just a stab in the dark!

They should be fused-I'll get the circuit and come back to you. More importantly, they have to be programmed into the BECM especially if it's an aftermarket fit. What P38 is it??-Petrol or Diesel?
Easy to programme into the BECM either by Autologic, Rovacom or the main stealers Test Book. Programming will only take about 15 minutes so don't fall for the "Leave it with us" cr*p cos they will charge you a fortune (At least 1hr). Have just finished a week of nights so I'm a bit knackered-but will check the circuit and post again tomorrow after a nights kip.

P38 is diesel dhse 2001
can I programe it up ?
is it possible to to obtain lead /converter/ software?
cheers irishrover

Unfortunately, No. Handheld scanners etc. will not work. It's a standard OBD II interface but the BECM can only be accessed by Test Book, Autologic or Rovacom/Rovacomlite. There are various options in the BECM code for fog light operation-On with side lamps & dipped/main beam, On with main beam only.
Where are you located? are there any independant dealers/specialists in your area?

Hi,
I live in Liverpool,
couple of dealers not too far away,Chester and one in Liverpool. Cant find HEVAC repair from link?

I know from first hand experience there are more then a couple of dealers in Liverpool. A couple I knew used to live in the Wavertree area

Is it a manual or auto diesel?? Also where have the fogs been mounted, on the bull bar OR in the bumper??

IF they are the fogs that fit IN the bumper AND the vehicle is an automatic you need to remove them. Behind the passenger side fog light is a radiator especially for the auto box. Usually there is a little grill in the passenger side cutout for the fog light.

If this has been removed and a fog light shoved in there you are asking for trouble for your gearbox.

If the vehicle is manual it doesn't matter and if the fogs are mounted on the bull bar then it also doesn't matter. Assuming you have a manual OR the lights are mounted on a bull bar have you checked the bulbs are fitted correctly and are ok??

Depending on the spec of your P38 you may or may not have had the harness for the for lights there or not. As its a DHSE then I'm guessing the harness was originally there and that the switch and fog lights were the only thing added. So to start off simply I would just double check the bulbs. If the bulbs check out ok then get a multi meter and check at the fog light connections to see if there is any voltage present there with the switch on, if not come back for more help.

Also, as others have said, the fog lights do have to be enabled in the BECM so if they aren't enabled then you wont get any light (although I wouldn't of thought you would of got a light on the switch either),

As for the HeVAC bulbs, dead easy thing to do. The part numbers you need are as follows...

1 x STC3869 - This is the bulb that lights the screen up.
3 x STC3868 - These bulbs light the buttons etc.
1 x RTC3635 - This is the bulb that lights up the AUTO sign in the fan speed dial.

To replace the bulbs is very and requires you to just twist the old bulbs out and twist the new ones in with the exception of the speed control one, for that you need to pull the knob straight out and unseat the old bulb by pulling on it and then pushing the new bulb into place. You will need patience getting the HeVAC panel out if you haven't done it before.

Basically the procedure is this...

1) Open centre cubby box thing (the bit where all ya' junk is kept).
2) Remove the two screws that hold the window switch pack in place.
3) Lift the pack forwards towards the front of the car and then light up a little and it will come unseated leaving two tabs at the bottom visible.
4) Remove the screw that holds the gear shift surround in place.
5) Lift gear shift surround up.
6) Move both front seats right back and remove 2 screws either side holding th centre console panels in place.
7) You now need to remove the two centre console side panels. Look here as this will explain how to remove them way better than I can.
8) Now remove the 4 screws around the HeVAC panel.
9) Pull panel towards back of vehicle and unplug all connectors (make sure vehicle is OFF)
10) Look at the back of the panel and with a flat blade screwdriver replace all bulbs.
11) Either leave the AUTO light alone of follow the instructions here as its not too easy to do.

Once you have done that you should be all sorted, just reverse what you did to take everything apart and you should now have working lights on your HeVAC panel. Take your time if its your first time removing the dash panels etc, I know when I first started it took me ages, 2+ hours-ish, you will get used to it though and things will take less time in the future, its good practice for when you come to replace the little bulbs that light up all the switches along the top of facia. :D

Hope this post helps a little, post back and let us know how you got on!!

Hi Wills,
its an auto so I guess removal of the bib mounted fog lamps is the order of the day,Cheers for that.
Thanks also for comprehensive description of bulb replacement, that really helps as manual very unclear on this. Looks like I have a busy day also will have to look for some thing to blank those fog lamp mounts off with.
Thanks again for your help.

BECM fuse is F1. I suppose you could always fit a relay and fuse to run the fogs but the switch will have to be rewired as BECM inputs are 0v (Negative) and it wont like 12v stuck up it. The relay coil feed could be taken off either the main or dipped beam, don't worry about the extra load to pull the coil in-it's negligable and I am running 100/130 watt bulbs in my P38.

Sorry to hear about the lamps, can you go back to the person who sold you the vehicle and see if they still have the drivers side blank and the passenger side grill?? I would also speak to the person if they tried saying the fog lights were brand new and just installed and got you to part with more cash because of that fact.

I cant understand anyone who would remove an obvious grill that has a radiator behind it and then block it up with a fog lamp, bit strange

The original blanking plate parts numbers are below, you will need to colour code these yourself or have them done for you...

ANR4150 - Thats the passenger side grill one.
ANR1996 - Thats the drivers side blank.

Incase you cant get hold of original blanking parts this is what they roughly look like...

As for the HeVAC panel, good luck and let us know how you got on :)

Thanks again.
will look around for grill and blank.
Thought it was a bit odd when I first looked at problem on lamps as first thing to do was check bulbs, no chance radiator in the way!
Will report back when switch illumination problem on temp adjustment and heated screen switches has been resolved.

Some one some place put fogs on a diesel, but what they did was to drill large round holes above the vent on the bumper then put mesh behind them and sprayed the mesh black, as far as i know it worked, i thought it looked a bit ugly myself, but if you really want/need them then its possible to do, i don't know whether the air flow was sufficient enough or not though

Thanks again.

HI, how did you get on with all this?
I have the same problem with the illumination on l/h/s with temp.toggle & heated sreen switches.
(r/h/s was so easy , just prise off (carefully) the AUTO switch cover, replace bulb & all these restored- fan speed/auto , temp. toggle & a/c & recirc.)
Cheers G.G.

If they have just been fitted and its a diesel the guy probally did not tell you that they need to be activated via software ...Go to a local landrover expert and tell him/her the story ...Probally just need to be activated.

What is likely to happen to the autobox if the fog lamps are not removed? Mine had them when I bought it 7 months ago, and I'm a little concerned!
