TD4 2002 3 Door....
Hi all.
Had my 02 3 door TD4 for 18 months now, and overall impressed.
Had a new Starter Motor and Alternator (but that can happen on any car!)
New Discs Front, VCU Bushes, Drop links, BMW Crankcase filter etc... but given it age 12 years old with 106k on it, I am happy with it
BUT, the ride quality has been gradually deteriorating along with the steering getting gradually heavier?
On a left hand bend, if the front wheel goes over ruts or uneven surfaces, it rattles and clonks, and if severe ruts I can feel it through the pedals and steering wheel - but doesn't do it on the drivers side?
I have changed the obligatory 'drop links' which did help a bit in that it doesn't clonk as bad, but the actual ride quality hasn't improved?
I feel every rough bit of road through the steering wheel and foot pedals: pot hole, drain cover, repaired tarmac and is particularly bad on rough concrete roads?
I has definitely got worse since I got it....
I had a 1.8 Petrol 5 Door a few years back (engine was shot so shifted it on) but the Ride Quality was far superior to mine, car like
(Also steering seems to have got heavier/stiffer especially at low speeds?)
I am sure it should be 'smoother' what are the key areas to look for?
I think the Dampers are OK but may be wrong?
1. Lower Struts Ball Joints?
2. Upper Bushes?
3. Inner Wishbone Bushes?
4. Roll Bar Bushes?
5. Tyres? (I have Kumho 15" AT 71's) all with minimal wear?
6. Others...........
Appreciate your advice on where to start looking and it what order (financial too!)
