I bought my freelander 19th Jan 2012 and the garage I bought it from gave me a months warranty!, (which has now run out)
He said he retested it and gave it a full service,
Since I bought it I have had to relign the headlights as they were pointing to the ground, reset all the tyre pressures, (which are part of a test)
I did question if it had been tested, he said yes.
This morning I have just paid £110 for crankcase filter, air filter, oil filter and 7 litres of oil and the garage that did these for me this morning said that no way looking at the state of these filters was this vehicle filters changed and given a full service on 17th Jan 2012,
I phoned the garage that I bought it from and he promised that it had been done and apoligised and was going to have a word with his fitters and apoligised again

Hi billburn,

Unfortunately what you describe is typical.

I would be asking the original dealer to pay for the service you've just had.

Have you checked that the headlight adjuster control on the dash is working?

Singvogel.

Hi , parr for the course ! learn to do it your self ,also tyre choice on a freelander 1 is very important check all 4 are the same make/model/size !

I was going to say check you head light adjuster on the dash also i had a mot inspector adjust one of my lights and the first dark night it was up in the air I went back the next day and ask for some one else to check it it was way out you have to be carefull out there. There are a lot of cowboys but sadly not my would make a sheriff

just thought next time take a cardboard box with you and ask for all the old parts to be put into it this will frighten them i did it with my wifes car it supposed to have had a full service they just changed the oil and not even the oil fillter I know because I had marked everything in the end it got a full service as I phoned head office but you can not do that with a small company

Yes that's first the I checked and leveler does work the lights are perfect now.

You are all talking the right talk 20 years ago when my dad was alive he would have been up there and tore his head off, but you can't do that sort of thing now but yea you are all right, I have phoned him I do have the evidence (the three filters) but my garage mate told me today that I have good car it is on a 06 plate 13000 mile and is in good condition he has gave it a good going over and he says what I have done today I would have today before the end of the year but it is good for a long while now,
So I say move on and warn anybody that is thinking of buying from him to beware,
Thank you for all your thoughts.

is it a local dealer or a franchise? either way get the garage that did the new test to write a letter outlining their concerns/feelings on the original test.

send a copy along with your reciept to the place you bought it from asking for a refund of the whole amount saying they sold a vehicle which was not as described and it's against the trades description act.

don't settle for anything less than half the costs. you could threaten to go to the local press and smudge there reputation (if they have one). franchises are more likely to comply due to the size of them and a structured complaints process

If you've had bad service or goods then report to trading standards. They will keep it recorded. You never know when they might contact you to ask for you to assist them in a case they're working on.

Sad state of afairs all tp common now before mine has any work done I put a faint line of chalk around any thing that should be checked or undone and always ask for the old parts back which also have marks on them if I can get at them.
Saying that the chap I have now found is bloody good.

This service was supposed to be done by the garage I bought it from he promised me that he would retest and full service before I picked it up,
And like you I have and used my garage where i live and he has serviced my vehicles over the last 10 years,
So If says I have a good one that's enough for me, but like I said i have been taken in and I say move on, but one day our paths may cross again and I will be ready!

Sorry mate I'm to old and to tired I have been driving all my life uk and europe driving HGV and coaches in out loads of garages to many to mention uk and abroad and once I would have seen this coming, And believe me I have met some real cowboys who could tell the difference between a Lada And rolls royce.
I won't give the name and I will try to deal with it my own way.
