:D:D Cheers guys. Not sure if its been in salt water. But I had that thought as well. The car originated from Scotland so I think that corner was open to the elements. :eek:There is some little bits on the sill. I have knocked the hell out of the chassis. every thing else is ok. The welding I done is well more than Mr MOT guy said. Believe me if I can do this anyone can. Spent a couple of week practicing in the shed.

If your intrested The welder I bought from Amazon. Wolf 130 amp. Gas/Gasless £130 New. Well happy with it. Also got gauntlets, pack of 2 £8 and auto darkening helmet which is ace. for £40. So for less than £200 Iv'e saved myself £150 off my mate doing it. Or £450 for the garage to do. No brainer really.

If you feel like having a go. Do it. If you find you can't you will always get your money back for your gear. I found It hard to do first few days. But when I got use to it and stopped being afraid of it that's when I started enjoying it.

JUST HAVE A GO GUYS. GOOD LUCK

You're a better man than I am, took me over 20 years off and on and I still aint mastered welding yet:D

 I wouldn't say mastered, far from it. All I can do is Find the good metal cut out the bad. Make sure there's good penetration on the welds and then frap wheel the spatter off.
I'm a floor layer and it's not that much different to welding up safety floor. Not sure that helps me. But hey ho. I'm far from a great welder. Took me hours to do cleaning cutting shaping and welding. Where as a good welder could have done it in less that half the time I suppose. :)

Fack me, I've got nothing like the rust problem yours had and I was told to forget it and scrap and sell for parts! Well, I think I'll weld mine myself and get the girl back on the road. All hinges on you getting an MOT pass really doesn't it? Let us know.

It will pass. ( No choice ) Just got to put new disc on back. so decided to do full brake replacement. new callipers disc and shoes all round. will do that next week. Gone busy at work now this week. Will let you know.

Don't sell it if your thinking of doing the work yourself. Garages can't be arsed so they tell it's too far gone where a good day welding and it's sorted. My mate who usually does my welding told me he couldn't really be bothered with it this year. so thought. If he can do it why not me.

Well after a bit of time she finally went back for MOT. Didn't pass but to be fair only 2 small welds which I did see but forgot about and 2 bulbs. so should pass saturday.

I was but then I ran out. Had a full roll of mig wire so I got some argon. welds a whole lot better. I will put some pics on of other welding tomorrow night. Also used a Wolf 140 amp mig welder I bought from amazon. Best £140 I ever spent Saved me 6 times that. Easy to work with aswell.

Great work mate.... just stripping mine and seeing yours has greatly encouraged me that mine is not bad at all :bounce: best of luck with next MOT...

Well Took her in and after a bit more welding, she has now passed. He said my mates done some good welding. :jaw: Didn't tell him I done it. He might have took another look and failed it. So I just agreed. :D
Any way I would recommend anyone to have a go at welding. Guess I saved myself nearly £800
Whent a bit over the top with it tho. But thought it best to do as much as I can.

So for this MOT I welded chassis both sides front and back.

welded rear cross member

Put new disc, pads calipers and bearings all round. Oh bought myself a flaring tool for making up break pipe. so made a few of them aswell.

Welded front inner drivers sill. cut hole out in the floor so get to it and weld another piece of floor in. couple of light bulbs and that's it jobby done.
