Hello All.
I took the Freelander to have the rear diff and IRD oils changed today,
and things are looking fairly good, the fluids looked to be in a reasonable condition,
so I have a few less worries about the drive-train and its components, other than the VCU,
I have been saying to the wife for a little while about the potential need to replace the VCU
at some point and I think I have finally got her to agree, sooner would be a good idea, although not immanent.
We believe the rear diff is in good condition or at least had the oils changed as need be,
and all 3 mounts look in reasonable condition,
We believe that the IRD is also in reasonable condition,
fluids don't hold any nasty bits of metal and nothing untoward seems to be happening there either,
Gearbox and Engine oils are next on the list to be done, next month..

So as long as nothing falls out/off during them fluid changes all looks as good as it can be I suppose..
Leaving the all important VCU and bearings to be the only possible weak link in the chain,(I Hope).
It looks like the original unit and bearings are still there,
so I think we will have to change this to preserve the IRD and rear diff,
the question is where to get the parts from???
I have taken a long time to get the wife to agree to this being done soon,
so I don't want to have to do it again because of substandard parts,
I have heard of Bell Engineering and seen their prices have gone up recently, are there any other places recommended by yourselves,,
Somewhere in the S/E would be handy,,but not essential..

I want to do this once and once only...:)
Or risk the wrath of her in doors...

Bell's prices have gone up but all frikkin prices have gone up for everything. Go with what you trust, you don't want to do this twice.

Hi , did the oils same as you a year or so ago , i keep checking my vcu by feeling it , to see if it gets hot after a run , and touch wood its been cold , to slightley warm after a long run :)

Bell's price @ £200 is the same as I paid early last year. I paid £275 for the VCU, new bearings and delivery and had no problems since, certainly not like some other suppliers.

Thanks guys for the replies,

I suppose I should stick with the company most have praised,,

will they send a VCU out without first receiving the old one??

We need the car on the road as much as possible,
so I would like to send the old one once its off the car??
and the new one in its place..

Is there a representative on here I can ask??

you dont need the vcu on the car but bell will send you one first with a bit of time to send back your old one

Bells will surcharge you if your old unit is not returned or is unsuitable for reconditioning, some other suppliers recon units can't be reconditioned (se previous posts).
