Faults with my RR-C

After buying a car I always give it a thorough check over, so here is what I found wrong with the RR:

Leak from power steering hose (not the actual pump like I thought!)
Alternator belt very worn & slack
Alternator only charges battery to 12.7V at idle
Radiator hose cracked
Brake pads only have 3,000 miles left on them at best

But that is it!

I'm so glad the PAS pump is fine and it is just the rubber hose that is split!

Now, without further-a-do, I'm off out in the RR to get the new parts!

I really feel like the king of the road driving the big girl! While others are getting stuck I'm plowing past in my big Rangie!

Oh, and on the way home I'll stop by a garage and get a tow-hitch fitted as I don't want to tow people out using the towing eye as that is a bit weak for my liking.

yep "towing eye" is actually a lashing down point for transport.Might be ok on road but id rather not use it.Mine seemed to eat brake pads, but using it offroad will do that.

In this weather the tow hitch is used to keep those traveling too close behind you off your bodywork.

On my old Rangie, last inter this device was used 3 times by people looking to slow down more quickly.

They were very grateful, so much so that one chap let me drive away with his grill.

Can you not tow people out using the front towing eye then? I haven't tried, but would be good to know. What can you use instead (if you can't get to the reat of the RR)?

the front one is a bit stronger I thing so its probably ok, its a hoop welded to the chassis from memory-I think lol

the lashing eyes at the back are just bolted on and very thin

I got everything I needed, and got a Witter tow-hitch fitted!

And on the way back I towed 11 cars out of snow covered roads! 11!

However I think there might be an issue with the cooling as 10 miles into my journey home the temperature gauge reached the hot mark and the engine started to splutter and loose power, I pulled over and let the engine cool down (didn't take long since it is -7*C!) Started up and did the other 10 miles flawlessly.

I'll give it a coolant flush tomorrow and see if that helps.

thats not good, imagine how hot it will get int he summer!

They dont like being overheated so try not to let it get into the red next time, shut it off quick!

Did you really tow 11 cars?? You were only gone 3 hours between posts!! LOL!

I towed 14 oompa-loompa's the other day...but they were in a minibus, so really it was only one tow!!

I know! Suprised me too. Everytime I put the rope back in the boot and set off, I didn't get more than 10 feet before having to stop and help another hatchback stuck in snow!

I changed the coolant, let the engine run, and it over heated again. However I put a new thermostat in and now it doesn't go past the quarter mark! Result!

On the point of standard tow eyes. Front ones are crap. mine are now flat against the chassis from towing 1 tree last winter. bit of bent rod welded to chassis (fetts memory does work now and then)

rear one is a cut plate bolted on. about 5 mm thick. does move but havent bent it yet from towing large vans etc.

Wouldn't trust it too much though.
Been using either the tow bar on rear or the eyes on nudge bar this year.

my standard bull bar had a towing eye which looked quite sturdy, but ripped the whole bars off whilst REALLY stuck off road.
