this may seem like a silly question but big fan at back of radiator 2 in the front what are they for cos i never see them come on and was wondering if it was working correctly not had it long and its me first rangie its 97 4.6 hse and even running it up to temp they dont come on anyone could point me in right direction on how to check properly many thanks

Those fans are for the air con, They don't come on very often as the engine driven fan is enough to keep everything cool. They will come if either, the engine is overheating or the A/C sensor detects excess pressure or temperature of the refrigerant.

I take it you mean the fan that's attached to the engine. if so it should be running all the time the engines running. however if you also have 2 at the front and it doesn't turn when the engines on then It sounds like someones fitted Kenlow electric fans to it and disabled the viscious fan. Do a search for Kenlow fans and goto there website where all will be explained.

OOOps ignore this post then. I stand revealed in all my ignorance.

cheers someone said it may be that but i thought id check cos car did overheat today and the still didnt come on thanks alot for clearing that up

If it is a Kenlow electric fan then they have a thermostatic switch fitted to the heater hose if you turn this to zero it should then run all the time the ignitions on if it does not then perhaps the fuse has blown.

those fan comes on automatically and is not on everytime. Its will work on a certain temperature.
