I there my landy went for its mot to day and failed on the abs:(

the problem
when you start the landy the abs light comes on and stays on, and when you break you have to cross your fingers and hope it stops. does anyone have any ideas why this is happening and what the possable problems are I have been told that there is a abs ecu on the 3.9 v8 discovery 300 model:(

mine kept throwing up a n/s/f ABS sensor fault. gave the wheel the shake test and all the bearings were ok so planned in a new ABS sensor. when i did the seals last weekend i noticed that the stub axle needle roller bearing was knackered. replaced that bearing this weekend and the ABS has been perfect ever since.

first thing i would do is get the paperclip test done - there is more info somewhere on here but basically you use a paperclip or a piece of wire to bridge 2 pins on your diagnostic plug and this flashes fault codes through the ABS light on the dash. this will tell you where the fault is and you can investigate further from there

Simple rule for ABS and MOT's... if the car has ABS it must work! no matter how well the car stops without it, it will fail, so there's no point trying to bung it through and hoping.

Any ECU is only as good as the info it receives so as previous posters have said work your way through fuses, relays and sensors first, no point leaping to the most expensive option first.

Not the first owner according to the various forums I read, even with simple faults such as a side light being out or an iffy wiper blade :(
No surprise there but anyone who knows theres a problem with the brakes 'hope they stop' has to be a nutter :D
