The dreaded mot happend today and it failed for the first time. Quite a few little things, but the two pains were passenger side rear outer arch and a hole in the chassis on the drivers side rear where the body mount mount is. The question is what to do with the chassis hole, im not sure what to call this bit (outrigger?) and so am struggling to find replacments or is it a case of patching? The holes in a right awkward place to get to.

Cheers, going to be propper grit my teeth time then. Not even sure what I would use to clean the metal up,a dremel?

Cheers guys. Lets hope the weather hold out long enough to get it done. What guage would be best?,got some 2 or 3mm sheet somewhere or has it just got to stop the testers screw driver?

Nice one, excuse the nooby questions, body works not my thing unless I can get away with cable ties and duct tape;)

One body mount on a disco rotten......shouldn't fail an mot unless 12" from a prescribed area (seat belt, seat or suspension mount) plenty of other body mounts.

My rule is.......could the body fall off? With the rest of the body mounts holding on to it.... no way!

Next time I would take it to someone who is land rover friendly.

I've taken all my landys here and they have looked after me over the years. I think its someone new,as I don't know the name on the ticket. One of the failures is both front brake hoses leaking, I must be blind as I can see any fluid anywhere.

think you would know if your brake hoses were leaking ,lack of brakes would give you a clue

It's not hard to perform your own mot before taking it for its mot, there's no rocket science just a vehicle inspection.

If the brake hoses are not leaking then tell him so.

If your not losing brake fluid - could be swivel oil  or general crap oil from further up the engine ...

give a wash behind the wheels - have a good look, tell him if it's clean of brake fluid ...

Thats the wind up,it was clean and still is. I go through a third party for mot, their surposed to do a pre mot check for me. Going to go elsewhere after the re test.

Ask him if VOSA would want a look ? ... might wake him up a bit ...

Body mount is a prescribed area, its a mounting and will fail.

Check under pressure, it may only be weeping when the pedal is pushed hard, either that or it may have failed on condition and he has written the wrong thing, have a word before assuming the worst, you can always get them to show you the fault.

As for the welding, if you are unsure how to prep the area I wouldn't even bother trying to weld it, pay someone to do it, it wont be expensive and is worth having done correctly otherwise you will just be doing it again next year!

Thanks for the advise guys, found out today they only weep under hard pressure of pedal.Just annoyed as its the first failure and Im missing a trial:)
