I would have thought rimmers would have done some development work on the exhaust to get the flow right wouldnt they? shouldnt harm power or torque, just give a very mild increase with some decent air filters no?

3inch too big...go read books..its really quite an art,not one i am fully up on..nor by the looks of things most aftermarket suppliers too..

in the end they make what people want..people want big,cos it looks good,so they make big...go read tuning books..small is generally good,increases gas flow speed,gets it out away from valves quicker.etc..very interesting reading,though dont beat razzle.lol

My backbox is blowing (has a hole in the underside) which I could repair, but would also like it a bit louder too.

To make it louder, would I be better to remove the backbox OR the centre silencer (not both, juiceyv8!!). Don't want to lose power, although I appreciate its unlikely to increase either. It's running a standard system and is a 1991 model - I don't think it has CATS, although I haven't checked!!

Like fett, I want a more throaty noise when accelerating but don't want the dull droning noise on long journeys.

the centre silencer removes the low end grumble and the back box takes out the high end rasp....so it depends on the sound you are going for

I would take out the center one then by the sounds of that

I've got a s/steel system that fitted by the previous owner about 3or 4 years ago that is de-catted , and I have put it through the last two m.o.t.'s without a problem ( 1992 model v8)! The amount of people who look up/round when I pass , makes me smile , and I sometimes can't help "blipping " it for added effect ! I 'll never forget the day I was pulled up next to some teenagers crammed into a fiesta at some lights, and I gave it a bit of a rev. ! They all looked up admiringly at the old girl , and the driver gave me nod of respect !! I winked back , floored it , and hopefully left a lasting impression on them as I disapeared into the distance !
