My defender has a bolt through the accelarator pedal preventing the pedal gitting the floor, the landrover's top speed is 80kmph which is roughly 60mph. Are the army known for restricting landrover's? If i take out the bolt the engine wont explode or break will it? Hahah. Sorry. Im clueless.

Cheers. Thanks for your time.

If it aint bust dont fix it or fook with it... if you want a bit faster sell it and get a 200 or 300 tdi. I have a 300tdi, but 60 is just fine and the engine sounds happy. THey are not made to go fast, just to get you to places that others can not reach.

you need to limit it at the throttle to a certain extent. Apparently, if you open it up too much you can damage the injectors. Mine'll do 70 on the flat with a fair wind, so you might be able to open it up a bit more.

if it was restricted properly it would not be done with a bolt take it out should not have any problems
bolt in pedal stops the cable stretching after you reach full throttle, breaking seals on diesel pump and winding them open isn't advisable

yes that's it. opening it right up puts strain on the injector pump, not the injectors, my mistake.. knew there was a good reason though!

i have the same bolt on my accelerator pedal but mines a 2.5 petrol, it was fully open when i got my 90, but i wound it out as i tend to have a heavy right foot! and its not the lightest on petrol.. cant say it makes much difference anyway but its a different story wit a petrol i suppose

the workshop manual says you can put strain on the carburettor linkages if it's too far out.. pretty much just a case of judging when the throttle mechanism is fully open without straining the cable..

You can yet it go as far as the rev limiter will let it (as long as it's set correctly) the engine is not going to district itself due to a bit more fuel. Bolt a turbo ontop of it and it's a different matter as LR found out the hard way:)

However before you go adjusting anything, have a look where the injector pump stop is as well as the screw under the pedal is there to prevent you bending the injector pump stop by pushing the pedal down and straining the stop on the pump.

60 is good however, it's just a basic engine without any boost. If your after speed then a different engine is needed. If you want it to run for ever without packing up them keep your one, and if you want it to pack up in the next 100 miles then bolt a turbo to the top of it!
