I'm looking into getting rid of the focus as it's costing far too much to run it, insurance last year was 1k+, thought I could stand it for a year but got a similar quote for renewal time in november! Plus about £250 a year tax... Worked out I spent about £250 to do approx 1000 miles last month as well, mid 20s mpg, cannot be arsed any more, can't be arsed paying such a premium to drive about with an ST badge on the back.......

Got a done deal with the girlfriends uncle on a '77 series 3 88" 2.25 petrol, but ive also got a 200tdi sat on the floor all ready to bolt into a series (from my other project thats taking far too long but will get done eventually)

Basically........I'm 21 with 4yrs no claims available, live in a reasonably low risk area.....any guesses what I'll be paying on insurance? Yeah I know I should go and do some quotes but its finding time.....everywheres usually shut by the time im done for the day

Whats the rough mpg on a 2.25 petrol and a 200tdi in a 88"?

Landy won't be my only daily transport, got a Yamaha tzr125 for getting to work on, landy for **** weather days, food shopping, offroading and when the landy breaks down of course.

Come on need someone to talk me into doing this! lol

my old s3 used to cost us about £350 a year for me and the wife when I was 26 and she was 21, that was with Lancaster. phone them up you get a better deal talking to a person and they also give free green lane and off road cover if you ask for it. :D

the landy on **** weather days aye?
sorry to burst your bubble, old landies arn't waterproof nor warm and quiet
but it has enough character to make me smile even when i see one rattling down the road,
mpg on the old 2.25 petrol all depends on how sensible you are, foot to the floor your not going to go past a single petrol station, sensible driving will see around 18-20mpg

Don't worry I've been around in my mates ancient 110 throughout the winter, I'm aware of the issues :D It'll be warmer, quieter and more waterproof than a motorbike lets be fair

Sounds like a plan though, time to mot the focus and get shut!

ahh true about the motorbike :) i'm currently looking for a old series 2a for myself (ive loved them ever since my dad had one) you going to try and get a tax exempt one?

Series are great motors.
The tdi engine makes them brilliant.
I havent a clue on mpg as my speedo has a mind of its own, but would agree with James on 25/35
I wnet down dover and back a couple of weeks ago 60 mph all the way motorway, fag packet calculations 29mpg no overdrive but the 3.54 diffs from a disco.
You only need two things to make them good in the winter, heated screen, drivers side only as its funny looking at the passengers face when they cant see where they are going!
The other a roof lining of some description to stop the water drips really ****ing you off.
I pay 73 quid full comp and thats with european wide breakdown cover.
Look on the series 2 forum main forum as a youngish fella has just got his insured for 100 pounds ish again full comp std policy no mileage limitations.
But dont forget theres always something that needs fixing and if you dont fix it then you break down, in the cold in a non insulated tin box.

My series costs 113 pounds full comp that lancasters classic car insurance. Thats on a 1978 2.25 petrol with unlimited miles. Going from a focus to a landy big shock but mine always makes me smile when i get in it. :)
