Engine randomly dieing and over revving

Hi again guys, more problems with the old girl

driving along fine then frequently (usually when coming off the accelerator) orange light shows on the dash injector/glow plug light not sure which and i have no power, if i put the clutch down it stalls sometimes when this light is showing. Then goes off again and i can drive normally. Have a problem with the revs jumping up and down at idle sometimes. the fuel injection specialist thinks my injector pump is shot as he says the purging at idle means to motor that controls the fuel on top of the pump isn't working properly, which is also why it just dies sometimes. im going to buy a used injector pump and have it fitted, does anyone else think it could be another problem?

I've got the same symtoms bar the surging at idle. Check out the last 2 pages of the Diesel Hot Starting Fault P38 thread, k100wigg has solved a similar problem with his P38 by changing the pump. It would be worth gathering all the information on one thread if we can.
