Hi Guys

I was chatting to an AA man the other day, who told me that used engine oil is safe to use in a landy as long as you thin it down with petrol. After filtering all the crap out of course, i was wondering if anyone else here does, or has done it and what you made of it?

Yes and No - well he's half right

I have a Black Diesel filtration set up at home. I use it to fuel my house not my Rangie - My Rangie gets 100% Bio

When running on Black diesel you need to mix 50/50 with regular Dino diesel, I have heard people running 50/50 with Black and Bio but unless you are using an acid base to make you diesel or a 2 stage with methoxide and washing and polishing your Bio then it simply isn't up to the job!

Also don’t forget that oil and diesel have a different density than petrol so yes while you may think you have mixed it well, after a long stand they will separate out followed by your diesel engine taking a sip of petrol and it won’t be a happy bunny!

So Don’t be tempted to mix petrol in with your diesel – I think the AA man must have been drumming up breakdown cover sales telling you that!

i saw an episode of road wars where a bloke got stopped and dipped and when the cops realised he was running on engine oil they refered it to hmrc. he then got done and fined a 3-4 figure fine, they say exactly how much but just a thought for you.

Forget cooking oil

A: Too many variables in used oil

B: No one gives it away anymore

C: New oil too expensive

D: oil will glog up injectors

E: Fuel pump at risk

F: Most cooking oil used by restaurants has a stabilizer that is no good for fuel

if you are thinking of the "make your own" route then Bio is the way to do it. Forget trying to get away with filtered WVO or neat Cooking oil

Spot on!!

Black Diesel you need to keep a record and then you MUST pay tax on EVERY litre!!!

Bio Diesel you can produce 2500 Litres a year before you start paying tax (again keep records)

WVO (waste veg oil) that has been filtered - you MUST pay tax on every litre!

drive on guys stay away from weigh bridges be grand. might be different in england or where ever yous are from but ireland there isnt many dippers about. i heard its a worning first then 500 pound fin second time then next time car taken off you. or a nice wee stay in a prision for 2 weeks. which i think is a joke because prison is pretty much a hooliday camp. and free food free gym and free edducation

Fair enough guys, thanks for the help :D i think ill just stick to good old diesel for now, id go into bio diesel but getting hold of WVO round here is hard as people are already hoovering it up! its a shame because i can get my hands on a lot of waste hydraulic oil though, is there a process to use that? between 46 and 68 grades

Before you dismiss it read the other threads, there are several peeps having done 10s of thousands of miles using engine oil, easy to filter, but as others have said if you do get dipped you might only might be in trouble
