Hey all, got an orange engine management light on dash, no limp mode. Any ideas on decent diagnostic kit for disco 5. Googled and got nothing. Also have a nice message of ‘consult your dealer’ on screen when selecting reverse. Guess my rear camera has gone
 
Don’t think engine management and camera fault is linked. Perhaps just a coincidence. Cameras have been mucking around lately so no surprise about one of them failing. More concerned about engine management tbh…

it was the Xmas cheer that did it;).

All I can say is look at the link, perhaps ask the question if updates will be available as they work their way through the software/hardware or whatever the geek speak is.

Any other driving habit or reason you think for an EML? Owned for long?

Thanks, owned the disco for 15 months now. No issues to date, spends its life sitting in the garage most of the week tbh. No change in driving etc. EML just appeared randomly, no change in engine performance etc.
 
To be honest has got a fair bit of driving lately with pre Christmas shopping trips and with the wife’s car out of action there for a fortnight.

regarding the diagnostic tool. I hit the link earlier in the thread. This one is pricey. Any cheaper alternatives??

alas with the later JLR models u won’t get away with some of the £50 diagnostic readers so unfortunately will need to spend more , otherwise ur get the wrong codes, plus the most important thing is to ensure it’s suitable otherwise u can brick u motor which would then involve the intervention of a dealer and be into serious money

U can get the gap iid for around £440 or if u look onto the discovery 3/4/5 forums they come up for sale around £300

the after sales service is also second to none , there based in Canada and can always email them and will answer normally within 24 hours, there plenty of us including myself who own one and there exceptionally good

hope u didn’t mind me adding this as a note of caution with regards in plugging in some of the cheaper scanners

lastly an old or drained battery will cause havoc on the system, using a multimeter and engine off u need to see a minimum of 12.6 Vdc on the battery , u can also do a hard reset which involved disconnecting both battery leads and touching them for around 5 x minutes , ensure they don’t touch the battery posts , this resets everything, plse check to see if there are any radio codes etc as this is like a computer reset which will clear all radio presets etc

Found a Landy guy close to me (27 miles) which I didn’t know existed. He put his diagnostic kit on today, got a reoccurring fault of P2047-13 REDUCTANT INJECTION VALVE CIRCUIT/OPEN BANK 1 UNIT 1 - CIRCUIT OPEN. This combined with an add blue low message onscreen. I refilled adfuel and got ecu history cleared. Both alerts appeared again after about 20 miles driving, orange engine management and adblue low message…
 
I correct myself, it's a whole mess with these codes as they are listed in sections, here's all they say about that code in the WSM:

P2047-13 Reductant Injection Valve Circuit/Open Bank 1 Unit 1- Circuit open



  • Purpose of the DTC
    • To monitor DEF injector circuit for open circuit
  • Electrical Cause
    • Yes
  • Mechanical Cause
    • No
  • Control Module Cavity
    • Circuit reference RAMV_L
    • Circuit reference RAMV_H
  • Monitor Description
    • DEF injector circuit open circuit, high resistance
  • Prioritized List of Possible Causes
    • The powertrain control module has determined an open circuit through lack of bias voltage, low current flow, no change in the state of an input in response to an output
    • Diesel exhaust fluid injector circuit open circuit, high resistance
    • Connector is disconnected, connector pin is backed out, connector pin corrosion
    • Diesel exhaust fluid injector failure

NOTES:

  • The powertrain control module is unlikely to be the root cause for this DTC and must not be replaced without a Technical Assist Request (TA) being raised for further guidance
  • A fault clear is NOT sufficient to clear the vehicle 'inducement' system warnings. The 'inducement' warnings automatically clear ONLY upon confirmation of the repair by the vehicle OBD system. The monitoring MUST be completed. The electrical checks normally occur when ignition is on or after engine start
  • Prioritized Checks to Perform
    • Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the diesel exhaust fluid injector circuit for open circuit, high resistance
    • Inspect connectors for signs of water ingress, and pins for damage and/or corrosion
    • Check and install a new diesel exhaust fluid injector as required
  • Vehicle Conditions to enable DTC Logging Strategy
    • Engine running
    • On completion of the previous repair actions the following MUST be completed
    • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, clear the DTCs and retest
    • NOTE: The engine MIL is OFF (when engine ON)
    • Start engine
    • The 'inducement' warning clears automatically when the monitoring has completed and passed with no malfunction. This terminates the drive cycle
    • NOTE: If the engine MIL shows during the driving cycle, then the malfunction has re-occurred. Further repair is required
    • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment clear all stored DTCs using the ‘Diagnosis Menu’ tab
    • NOTE: This clears the fault storage from P2BAE / P2BAF

We get much the same defects on the trucks at work.
Assuming the car is the same idea you'll have a pump/motor which is called the dosing module this provides the ad blue under pressure to the reductant injector which should be mounted on the SCR cat.

Some of the parts prices for after treatment system spares on the trucks is mental, For example the dosing module on a Scania £1600 plus VAT the reductant injector £600 plus VAT!
I reckon at least half of the reasons our trucks are vor is all due to emissions issues.

Im pretty sure u can’t disable the asblue , wondering if the DPF is blocked ?? , maybe the garage can check that for u and if required do a forced regen particularly if u normally do short trips

plus with a decent scanner ur also be able to check the sensors via the live data

is that the only code that comes back up please seeing the history has now all been cleared , thks
 
Plus see the gap iid has Limited coverage for 2017 and up . Functionality coverage for 2017 and up L405, L494 and L462 platforms is being beta tested and release is due autumn 2022.

I dont think so but even if you can it would be extremely expensive as the vehicle to pass MOT after that, according to the code's description which i posted it can be a wiring issue on that path which needs some troubleshooting or that particular injector which is not a killer https://www.lrparts.net/lr134710-ad...rt-l494-discovery-5-and-defender-2020-on.html so better go on that path and get it fixed, you need a good auto electrician who knows what to do and can access the diagrams
