So it's the old EGR valve not opening chestnut. It's a common Ford problem too. You can try stripping the EGR valve and cleaning it. That works sometimes, but sometimes not. If the servo has failed, an EGR replacement will be needed.

i think the P042F IS THE egr and P0299 IS somethig to do with the turbo.I have erased them see what happens tomorrow.

Well the old EML came on again yesterday so took it to garage while it was still on and the old code P0299 raised its head again along with quite a few more but only the P0299 reappeared after he reset it and started the engine again along with a message of a shot glow plug.So it goes in the garage a week tuesdayto chase the problem of turbo underboost up.Anyone got any ideas as to where to start looking ???

Is the inlet manifold all coked up?
Is the MAP sensor clean?
Are the turbo vanes free to move?
Is the turbo filter clean?

Hi Nodge 68.Thanks for the reply.I think the things you mention will be things i can,t do myself but i,m sure the mechanic will check these things and if i remember correctly the inlet manifold needs to come off to change the glow plugs. If this is correct i will ask him to give it all a good clean. The mechanic did mention it could be the vains he also says it could be a multitude of things but i trust the guy not to rip me off. There is one thing i did notice under the bonnet today that is a poor idea. The wires that come out of the loom that the maf sensor plug is connected to is pretty short and the wires could easily break from the plug.Is there anything i could look for my self before it goes into the garage .TIA.

Update on this. The FL2 has been into the garage today to see why the light comes on.Where do i start 3 things found that needed doing asap. All injectors leaking 1 very bad 1 glow plug out and a air leak on the inlet manifold. All injectors have been out and cleaned up and new brass seating washers fitted glow plugs replaced then the phone call came i need a new inlet manifold as one of the flaps was missing completely one had been bent over with pliers and the accuator arm was missing all together. So a replacement inlet manifold will be with us thursday morning then hopefull alls ok

Well new intake manifold fitted injectors seated correctly and new glow plugs in.Vehicle is running very well.Engine is very quiet and more responsive. We had a chat about a new EGR valve but we decided on blanking it off and un mapping it.That happens friday along with a oil and filter change
