Hi everyone,

I recently had the cam belt & water pump changed on my 2014 FL2 SD4 Metropolis together with a service at a local independent garage. Exactly one week later the EML came on (steady amber) but no lack of power. I took it back to the same garage and they said it was showing an ERG valve fault and have given me a price to replace this. I googled this problem and see that many people have fitted an ERG blanking plate but just wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction of how to get this fitted and will it affect the vehicle at MOT time due to the emissions not being recirculated? Also, do I still need someone to clear the fault code so that the engine light goes out or would that happen once the plate if fitted (apologies if that is a silly question but I am not very experienced with mechanical issues).

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Blanking the EGR on a 2014 comes with its own problems, as the EGR function is monitored, which it isn't in the early cars.

What was the code that's coming up?

Thanks for the reply Nodge68

The garage didn’t tell me what the fault code was - just that it was showing an EGR valve fault. The car is driving as normal but they have quoted me around £550 to replace the ERG - I didn’t want to just pay out for that without doing some investigation first.
