I have a few issues with me leccy bits - front fogs don't work (I assume they are aftermarket ones, fitted to the bullbar although I can't be certain!) - not urgent just mentioning in case anyone sees a connection here.
Rear lights, one of the bumper ones works, one doesn't but none of the main ones work including the reverse lights. Brake lights are ok though. Now, are any of these problems likely to be connected d'yas think or do I have 2 or 3 different issues going on here? Is there a connection between the bumper lights and the rear cluster that could be causing the problem (well there must be for them to both work eh? Durrr).
At the mo I've only got the one little light on the bumper and a good chance of getting a tug of the jolly old Spanish Bill! Instant fines and all that malarkey! (I did check the bulbs btw!)

Good evening old chap.....

Bumper Lights not working----try removing the bulb holder from the light and clean the terminals including the earth contact inside the holder...they are prone to water/damp corrosion.
Rear upper lights not working----check bulbs and check terminals on the bulb holders.

Hope this helps

"Hawkeye or Nanocom 'll do it." Aren't they two of the Transformers?

Not got RAVE - did have but computa was fried, nobody told me you had to use surge protectors in Spain and unplug all electrics when big storms happened........

:eek::doh:......I've erased my previous bollox......i wasnt attentive again:mad::eek: to see it's about a 300Tdi.............Only Hawkeye'll do it and it doesnt have a BCU.......sorry.......it has the MFU(on the back of the passenger compartment fusebox)........it could do the tricks u've described but u can't run circuit tests on it.....check for dry joints instead

Ok fellers, revisiting this one cos I've not much idea how to fault find the problem! It's not the bulbs and the connections are clean.

Main issue is my rear lights. Just to go over it - one bumper light works and none of the main rear lights work except for the brake lights and the indicators. So, no upper rear lights, only one bumper light. No reverse lights either - that could be the switch of course...coincidence? Are there any multi plugs that link the bumper and upper light cluster that I can check?

It's not the bulbs and the connections are clean.

Gotta do some night driving this week - the Mother-in-law's coming to stay  and I've got a 3hr drive mostly in the dark on Thursday to pick her up.

I did have a look thru the pdf manual posted above but can't see any specific fault finding bits :(

It's not the bulbs and the connections are clean......:D:D

Cheers for any more assistance!

Ok, I'll give this one bump in case anyone can help. Got my long airport run the day after tomorrow so a bit concerned. (Also got a potential overheating problem as per my other post :()

Today, I pulled up in front of a glass window and used the opportunity to test the headlamps then I tried the front foglamps which I 've never known to work in the few weeks I've had the car and they worked and the little red light on the switch came on. Getting carried away now I tried the rear fogs and they worked properly too!

Sadly I still only had one rear lamp working - same as before, on the bumper.

When I got home I tried em again and they were back to not working (the fog lamps) Then I discovered that if I put the headlamps on full beam, the rear fogs would work:confused: but not the front.

Any sparkies out there to point me in the right direction could the switches be faulty? Is it a bad earth somewhere? Me no sparky:(

Cheers
Rich

Hi Rich, I've been pondering over the wiring diagram for you this afternoon while i was inbetween paint coats on my alloy wheels. All of your symptoms point towards the rotary light switch/stalk. If you could get 1 each enough it would be worth a try or if you know of any jolly nice chaps overthere with a Disco 1,you could always ask if you could try their switch b4 you go out and buy 1.

It's worth a try

Dave

With your rotary swith turned to position 2----headlamps on---you have no rear foglights......................
But if you push the stalk forward for mainbeam---you are getting a live feed out of the stalk to power the foglamp switch and your switch works and your foglamps work.
I had a problem like this with my fathers Ford escort...it lost all rear sidelights and the rear foglamps would not work and the rear indicators worked when they felt like it.
I changed the stalk for a new one and IF BY MAGIC.....they all started working again.
