I know there are threads on this already but I have a problem.

Tonight I thought I'd take my EGR valve off just to see what the state of the pipes were like. Not as bad as some pictures on here but there was an awful lot of oil in and around the intake pipes. Only a bit of thick cruddy oil though.

Any way my problem here is that I accidentally pulled off the small vacuum pipe that connects to the EGR valve. It is still attached at the EGR end but not at the other end and I can't actually see where it goes back on. Will I have any problems? Will this have in essence deactivated it? I havn't stuck a screw in it or anything but doesn't seem to have affected things? Any ideas how to get it back on. I don't have a small mirror. Any tips on what it should be like/can I feel for it. I'd rather have it back on at least until I have got a proper blank.

hi

best thing to do is do a egr bypass, there is info on here about how to do it and pics, including if u want how to clean the inlet manifold out

i was hopeless when i first bought mine but since coming on here and searching though the posts i couldn't believe how much info there was and got great advice along the way and endless amounts of help

hope it helps a bit

Ok today I drove it and there is a lot of black smoke on acceleration. Worrying me now as I cant find where the pipe should go back onto?

Black smoke suggest over fueling or the egr stuck open. This allows exhaust gas back into the inlet manifold un-controlled. Obviously there isn't much oxygen in the exhaust gas so the result is over fulling and soot (black smoke).
Dump the egr valve all together, horrid, pointless things.

EGR Blanking plate ordered, just worried that the black smoke might not necessarily be from the pipe that I took off. I cant find where it goes.

If you lot haven't worked out yet I am a bit of a worrier. Not a massive problem right now as I have my other car but it is for sale and I'll be down to one soon!

.. be from the pipe that I took off. I cant find where it goes.

it connects to the egr vacuum solenoid ( pic attached )

be on same side of engine as the egr valve ..
i think you might have to take some of the plastic covers off to see it .. or get to it ..

best to get that hose blanked off properly ..
a) left open .. it represents a vacuum leak when the solenoid opens the vacuum curcuit
b) left open .. sooner or later dirt will ingress to the solenoid .. which will stick
and cause a dash warning light to come on ..

Thanks buddy, I found it and put it back on the other day. I think I found your diagram on the search. I was expecting the hose to go further down for some reason. The picture helped see where it connected.

I still found I got black smoke even once I'd connected it back up. So I have turned off my synergy for now. I've got a egr blank on order too.

What setting have you got your synergy on?
When set to max they do tend to give back smoke on acceleration.....just knock it back a setting.

Well I checked all the connections the other day. My EGR is plugged back in properly and it was still smoking so I took turned the synergy box off and hey presto the smoke went...

I tried it again yesterday and the smoke came straight back. I haven't yet had chance to service it including installing my EGR blank and I still need to buy a bmw crankcase breather.
