egr blanking plate

Ive done my late TD5 with the blanking plate and the straight through pipe, ( complete EGR removed ), and it makes a differance low down with relation to throttle response. Also gianed about 1 to 2 MPG !.

On the later ones they fitted a water jacket around the pipe from the exhaust to help with cooling the recirculated gas. This makes fitting the blanking plate even easier as you dont need to put it over the exhaust port, as there is another joint with exactly the same shape flange just below the valve its self.

Bin the valve, bin the valve, bin the vavle, bin the valve !!.

I read a lot about these when i start the disco i get these symptoms (egr symptims) but im not sure if i need one is it for td5 only? eg mine is a 2.5 - 93 k reg tdi disco can i fit one to mine?

Thanks Wappy.

ps sorry for jumping on the thread.. i couldent see the point in making another egr post lol

Hi The Wappy one (interesting handle??) if it is as I assume a Tdi 200, then it doesn't have an EGR valve, so there is nothing to block off.

Cheers

EGR - Eventually Gets Removed ?

)
That one gets my vote.

Quite a few people have said the improvement is marginal, but the real problem is if your valve gets stuck open, like mine (I assume) did. Engine then gets rougher and noisier and drives a bit like a 200TDi (problem if it's meant to be a TD5). With the valve blocked off, mine now drives like it used to. Maybe a bit better but not so much as I'd notice. I think it also improves fuel consumption when driven fast - haven't noticed much improvement in normal driving but when I DO need to put my foot down the gauge seems to go down more slowly.:)

Cheers , and to be honest I'm not expecting any major (or even minor) improvement , I just dont like the idea of all that crap going back into the inlet. I did take the top intercooler hose off and stuck my finger in the hole , its full of thick black crud and did have evidence of oil in the pipe itself....so the whole lot (inlet/exhaust manifold inc) is coming off and getting soaked in gunk....
