Efi Airbox Trumpet? Important?

Making up a snorkel at the moment for my 3.9 Defender.

Was going to cut the trumpet off the airbox and weld on a bit of tube so that I can clamp the pipe to it.

Out of interest will this affect anything or is it not too important? Not quite sure why it has the trumpet on it.

would think it's more a silencer than anything else. have seen them done like this before and doesn't seem to affect them.

no effect i run mine with a kn filter direct onto air flow meter

No affect at all. My road RRC has that airbox. My off road RRC has the snorkle modification as you describe.

i didnt need to weld a tube on.

i just cut it back so it was about 3" long, shoved some hose on as far as possible, then taped it like crazy with insulating tape, then fitted a jubilee clip. was briliant for a few months, until i fitted another battery and it was in the way, so then cut it off and plated it, and welded a tube into the side of it.

Haha, my intake is taped up at the moment, need to get some proper piping for it. Think id be aswel just welding tube on as I should have some left over. Cant wait to get it done.lol
