Evening,
Have also posted this as a general message.

1 - Have V8 with LPG and have problems with engine warning light. Formerly sorted out by replacing coil but has happened again. Mechanic suggested replace ECU and coil again but that costs quite a bit for a chance. Thought to take ECU to firm to get it checked but cannot find it. Have tried behind glove box and found 2 black boxes which assume are other ECUs. Have also tried behind driver's side plastic kick plate. LPG ECU is located behind jack and nothing else in locality, i.e. have been looking for flat aluminium box.
Would welcome ideas on problem and location of ECU.

2 - Formerly had yellow greasy fluid in drivers footwell collecting in the insulation sponge of carpet. Thought that was coolant fluid and had it fixed, i.e. was leak in pipe as went through bulkhead. Had coolant changed to pink and footwell dried out. Today whilst looking for ECU noticed that carpet was sodden with the yellow greasy fluid again.
Again would welcome ideas on where fluid coming from.

THANKS

No, I cannot see whether it is in the engine bay.
Don't understand Irishrover?
Do not think it is the air con drains because why would there be a yellow oily fluid coming from them. However I do not know. Would possibly expect some clear fluid.

Thanks,
Have done but only LPG ECU located there. Thought that the original engine ECU would still have to be around tp manage other engine functions unless it has been replaced by the LPG ECU?

Im certain that the LPG ECU doesnt replace the ECM,....... I doublechecked, thats from RAVE

The engine control module (ECM) is located on the RH side A post below the face panel inside the vehicle. It has a cast aluminium case and is mounted on a bracket. The ECM has 5 independent connectors totalling 134 pins.

3. Remove fixings securing fascia RH closing
panel, release diagnostic socket RH drive
models, and remove panel.
4. Remove 2 fixings and remove 'A' post lower
trim.
5. Remove 2 nuts and release ECM from studs
and location on 'A' post lower panel.
6. Lower ECM into footwell and disconnect 5
multiplugs.
7. Remove ECM.

Hello again,
Thanks for the info. Am I right is thinking that you mean it is hidden below the cubby hole where many of the fuses are located, i.e. I need to take off the covering panel where the diagnostic socket is located on mid left and gain access to the ECU? Will give that a go on Thursday after work.
Hope you do not think I am taking the mickey but would you have any idea on my secondary problem with the yellowish slightly oily fluid that collects in the drivers footwell, but below the insulation carpet, i.e. it must be leaking down/through the bulkhead. Is not coolant fluid because all mine has been pink for over a year now.
THANKS

I dunno that if U say it's not coolant(only circuit wich goes around there) .....all I know is that yellowish gets the oil when its mixed with water........U might check though how is behaving the antifreeze fluid in contact with dust and air to be sure

First thing I would do is get an independent to run a diagnostic on the M 5.2.1 ECU and see what fault codes are there before considering repacing the ECU!
From what I understand it takes a major fault on a UK market car to put the light on, mine has run like a bag of ****e at times with various faults but the light has never come on.
Also bear in mind that the LPG system has to be fully compatable with the engine management system, a basic single point LPG system will just not work but some installers still fit them..
The Bosch ECU is an adaptive system it runs the timing & fueling based upon inputs from it's various sensors primarily the lambda sensors, it will try to acheive the ideal air/fuel mix (lambda 1.00) or thereabouts. It makes changes to the fueling to acheive this and if it cannot for some reason or another it will throw up a fault code and/or put on the engine light and go into open loop fueling (limp home) mode.

Thanks,
What make me think ECU is that the engine diagnostic throws up that cyclinders 5 & 8 are misfiring / not firing at all, both on this and the former occasion. Formerly I got the relevant coil changed and all was sweet until driving home from E.Europe a couple of weeks ago when exactly the same happened again, i.e. engine warning liht and misfiring, checked to 5 & 8, likely coil problem again. Any idea what could cause such a problem with the coil?
