my range rover needs a new fip :mad: getting a second opinion tomorrow but its not looking good.
do i take a chance with one off ebay?
get mine reconditioned? (cost believed to be around £200+)
emmotts have one for £275 straight off vehicle not reconditioned
cant afford a new one just stupid prices

your opinions are much appreciated. thanks tim

Reconned FIPs are usually around the £600.00 mark exchange, if you can get yours done properly for £200.00 snap their hand off.

£600 is just the recon who is taking it off and putting it on add £400 if so £900 new don't even bother with conbay

Also post up who is doing them for such a little amount!! I'm replacing the top seal on mine this weekend - wish me luck lol

You always say that we don't have extended tea breaks and chat to work Colleagues and its not your time that's a garage for you :)

Yeah i suppose you're correct. That's used to be one of the benefits of using a main dealer. They should not charge you more than the standard time allowed. But their rates are so far through the roof these days that advantage has gone out the window. Never use garages anyway except for MOT. But think you should be able to remove pump in less than an hour and drop it back in not a lot more than an hour. Three hours all in tops. So £400.00 still a little steep. :)

It won't be far short of 1k including vat not worth messing with unknowns that's for sure ,after all its the most important vital part of any diesel the heart beater .

If it's the FIP it should show up on live data on diagnostics. I wonder if someone is about to rip you off by claiming to fix the FIP when that is not the problem at all.

<stupid question>
I always thought the FIP was the black thing that the fuel filter screwed on to and where the fuel hoses connected. Since we are talking £600+ it can't be. So what is that and where exactly is the FIP?
</stupid question>

The fuel pump in the tank pumps fuel to the filter that leads to the fuel injection pump that pumps diesel through the six pipes that lead to the injectors on top of your cars head

datatek theirs nothing left to change, new in tank fuel pump,new spill pipes,new filter,replaced a leaking injector (this stopped its idle issue), new 6 months ago actuator on top of fip.4th injector is ok, turbo pipes are good,
is there anything electrical that wont show a fault as im not getting a warning,
i might even try putting the old actuator on just to try you never know.

Why was the actuator replaced? Is it back correctly?
It won't log a fault, but live data will show you if the FIP is behaving normally through the rev range. Replacing the FIP based on guesswork is an expensive option.

the actuator had an intermittent fault where there would be no acceleration under load it only happened when i was on the motorway,i could lift off the accelerator and it would be ok,it was tested by a land rover specialist on the m61 and and i was told that it was the problem. so i replaced it that was 6 months ago.and it was expensive!!

basically i stopped to get diesel a few days ago and i had no power leaving fuel station (still ran ok on idle and still does) ,i checked turbo hoses there good spill pipes are new and all are connected tight and are dry,new filter, new intank fuel pump, injector nearest to the radiator was leaking so i replaced it with one i was given (new). it will rev while static to 2000rpm max with grey smoke on acceleration and black on deceleration, it will drive but only on idle but if i try to accelerate it will cut out as if its starved of fuel, then take a while to start again, when it does this it will prime the fuel system but not fully. i cant find fuel leaks anywhere to let air in or leak fuel out.

a friend of mine has suggested timing, i can remember reading somewhere that the engine needs to be timed every 40k,is this true and could it cause this?

Have you checked your new in tank pump works? If it was ****part it may have already failed. Equally if you got a tank of diesel full of bacteria the mesh filter on the in tank pump could be blocked.
My digger regularly has this type of problem at this time of year, it will idle but has now power, clean the slime out of the tank, a new filter and it's fine:)
Without diagnostics you are ****ing in the wind. Pump timing would have to be a long way out to cause your problem, the re-timing really only refers to hot start problems and it can easily be seen on diagnostic live data if the timing is out.
