Hi all, so having to bite the bullet and get a complete transfer box, problem is everyone seems to be out of stock or on holiday, Ive seen a posted as new on eBay coming from china, has anyone had anything like this and their thoughts before possibly buying, when you think about it most things come from china, or if anyone knows of a good transfer box out there in stock would be great.
thanks Steve

I wouldnt buy a tranny from china why dont you get your original one re-built if your keeping the motor.
It takes weeks to get it then if theres a problem you have to pay to ship it back unless you live in china then crack on.

Hi Kevstar, they were stating 2 days shipping which didnt add up thinking about it, I’d rebuild it myself as am capable, but the input shaft spline is near gone and the hollow shaft doesn’t show on parts listings, was hoping for just the bearings but it’s always worse news, I wrote a post last night, and have been looking all evening and morning but all exchange units seem to be out of stock and really needed to get it done sooner than later.

Ah ok I see freelanders aint my bag so wouldnt know where to look for parts.
2 days postage from china its takes a week for hermes to deliver from one side of glasgow to the other.
Just a thought have you looked at freelanders breaking seam to be a few on bgay.

It looks like Bell Engineering are getting these splines manufactured - presumably outsourced. They look to be charging about £150 for these - ie box with existing splines £480, with new splines £630. I wonder where they get them from, and how much they pay

While nobody else looks to be selling them, they obviously don't want to sell them separately or else they lose reconditioning business.

Normally these people have Freelander parts, but they don't look to have any PTUs at the moment...

I'd wait and get a known good unit from Bell Engineering. You can drive the vehicle in the meantime, as the stripped splines simply means no drive to the rear, which you wouldn't have without a propshaft anyway.

Thanks Grumpy, yes there seems to be a shortage at the moment, I was told city gearboxes would have them on the shelf at Coventry but I can’t find a number for them online, think I’ll wait for bell engineering to return.

Well I can not thank Bell Engineering enough, they’re on holiday, but still text me back advising his packager was in today so ordered the box and should be with me Friday, what a result, drained the transmission oil ready to replenish and it was black as engine oil, think once it’s back on all four wheels a full service will be the order of the day.
