Quick bit of background, i bought my P38 as a none runner, had to jack it up and move it about a bit to fit a new fuel pump.. I figured the EAS system wasn't working sue to detecting wrong heights...

Finally got EAS Unlock to connect (The OBD connector was knackered) and it had a few faults, which were wrong heights and vehicle had moved as predicted, so i reset alll faults and hit the EAS unlock button... It still doesn't work...

I've never had anything to do with EAS so this is probably me just being stupid, i need to get it out of the garage really... (In the process of selling a car so i can insure / tax it)

When i start it, the top light is illuminated, there are no faults, no new faults logged in EAS but the pump won't run.. I can start and stop the pump manually, the valves all appear to be operating.. The height sensor readings are all similar which to me implies no obvious problems...

Can anyone enlighten me as to what's going on??

I'm fast running out of patience with the abomination that is EAS and Birmingham electrics, I've already decided that if it's not going to be a quick and easy fix it's getting springs. Springs don't stop working because they're confused. Springs only stop working when you destroy them.

How do you pump manually? By software? or directly with 12 V?

I think your problem is the temperature sensor or a bad connection in the compressor (electric part).

With the software - so i take it from this the pump should fire up as soon as the engine is started? Like i said before I'm completely new to EAS... I'd like to keep the air suspension if the fix is relatively cheap and easy.. Or even just relatively cheap (spring kits can be bought for £250 posted now, after the £250 outlay thatts the end of suspension issues....) The thinking behind springs is that looking at this forum.. the EAS system doesn't appear to be very reliable at all.....

Maybe only until next years MOT.

I take it you have all the doors closed and no door open messages on the dash? Any door open and the EAS is locked.
If you don't have the patience to fix the EAS, then the P38 is not the car for you. The EAS is one of the simpler systems that give trouble on the P38 and certainly one of the easiest to fix.

Many thanks to Datatek for the lead and software. Mine rose to full height today and came up with a RR sensor and vehicle has moved. I have cleaned the sensor and cleared the faults which appears to have solved the RR sensor but it still comes up vehicle has moved? It's workinh normally though.

Vehicle has moved just means it has dropped a little. Nothing to worry about.

Yeah i'm beginning to wonder why i ever bought one of these heaps of **** myself. Seriously, what do you guys see in them? They're an electrical mine field, they leak (Seriously, every time i fix a leak i find a new one... I'm up to 8 so far), everything breaks, nothings cheap to replace, they drink fuel like it's water... Then there's the dreaded BECM that sits under the drivers seat threatening to make your life a misery if the battery dies...

I've spoken to a few P38 (6 to be precise) owners over the past few weeks, and they all seem to really like the car but then when I ask if they've had any hassle... after the 5th cup of tea 3rd packet of hob nobs i was just wishing i hadn't asked... The wedge of receipts they must have will be responsible for the destruction of an entire amazonian rainforest on its's own!

I had a go in one of those landcruiser amazons the other day, if the above mentioned repair bills weren't enough to convince me that Range Rover's are steaming piles of cow **** the Land cruiser was.

And has it been any trouble? "Well it needed an exhaust for the last MOT... and the drivers side electric window motor packed in after 180k but other than that it's just needed servicing"

Not bad considering he's done over 100k in it.

Yeah but he doesn't have any fun. :D:D:D

You can get 2 or 3 P38's for the price of a 10 year old Amazon and if you need parts, the P38 is much cheaper.:)

Correct and if you think Rangie parts are dear, wait til you need something for a Toyota.

True, but who cares how expensive land cruiser parts are?? Ask an owner how dear they are!!

They have absolutely no idea, because they don't break.

Range rovers are not cheap, cheap to buy yes, but repair costs probably mean after a few years the land cruiser's a bargain in comparison!

I've always been a fan of jap cars, I know on the car side of things once you get your sources sorted out parts are nowhere near as expensive as people make out.

I'm actually kinda surprised by that... I didn't actually plan to get rid of my Range Rover but it narks me when you've spent the last few months solving one problem after another, you say something along the lines of 'Getting really effin sick of this might just chuck it / chop it / burn it or something equally silly' and someone goes 'Well if you don't have the patience for that then this obviously isn't the car for you' Rather than just accepting that we all need to vent from time to time and trying to help..

But given the complete lack of defense for the RR I'm thinking that maybe it isn't just me, maybe deep down everyone knows these things are just fan jacked up gadget strewn turds.??????

I have to say the stack of bills I got off the last guy with my RR would have bought him a land cruiser..

Mine starts first time every time even if I don't drive it for a fortnight
I travel in the smell of leather not the stink of vinyl
In the last two years I've HAD to refurbish the suspension pump - £25
Not so much as an advisory for the last two MOTs
When I arrive anywhere nobody asks what I drive, they all know

Sounds like you've bought a bad 'un.

Sounds like someone offloaded a pile off to you. There are plenty of decent P38s about, don't blame the car for lack of diligence on your behalf when buying it. Toyotas are soulless and boring - the cars might not break that often, but I'd die of boredom driving one.

I have owned Pajero, Delica, Patrol and Land Cruiser and they cost twice as much to own. I think you simply bought the wrong one. Mine has it's quirks but I will get it all ironed out. Then again the receipts with mine could be verified and the parts equally be seen to have been fitted. i.e new air bags, aircon rad etc etc
