Hi all

I have a 1995 2.5 DSE which has just started with a fault.

The eas fault comes on then it says drive slow 35 mph max

the ride height lights flash then stay on and i can't raise the suspension.

I know nothing about these and dont know where to look first.

It looks like the rear end has failed because it looks lower there.

Where should i start looking or is it a garage job
thanks

Without diagnostic equipment, it is difficult to know as there are several causes. Firstly visibly check the air bags and see if any have definite and obvious splits that would cause total air loss (unlikely). If nothing is obvious, the most likely cause is a compressor failure - mounted under the black box on the nearside wing in the engine compartment. You can either buy a replacement seal (fiddly to fit) or a complete piston assembly on Ebay - both are fairly inexpensive. Failing that you can buy replacement genuine compressors on Ebay. I paid around £230 for a new compressor and it took 10 minutes to fit. It could also be another electrical cause but the compressor is the usual cause, as it was in my case.

there is eas unlock available for free if it hard faults

i am getting more and more confused
I turn the ignition on
Car beeps with a warning on the mesage centre eas fault drive slow 35mph.
Ride height lights flash
inhibtor light is on (Even though swith is off)
car raises to highest height.
all the ride height lights stay on
inhibitor light stays on
warning beep carrys on.
cant lower the car.
its not on its bump stops.
is it the compressor?
should the compressor buzz or somethink.
are bags are ok otherwise it wouldnt rise

any one got any ideas
thanks

hello,
going up to highest level is normally a faulty diaphragm valve.
the system tries to get to standard height, the diaphragm does not allow the pressure out, the eas ecu thinks it is a physical obstacle under the body and sends the car to extended height. this level is ok for very low speeds, when you exceed that, the ecu gives you a beep and goes to hard fault. this has to be cleared by a computer.
it can be a sensor fault as well, as mentioned before.
you could try disconnecting the air line from the dryer (this is for bypassing the diaphragm valve) and then clear the fault. if the system works normally then, you will know that you need a diaphragm valve repair kit - not expensive.
cheers, korkut

If it comes up to full height on all four wheels then the bags are o.k. The diaphram mentioned by member kork is part of the valve block assembly which is in the compressor black box. That was good suggestion, or possibly another fault in the valve block. The RR is also prone to various bad electrical connections, including the height sensor connections. It's worth cleaning all plugs/sockets & earth points and the inhibiting them with WD40 or similar. You could also possibly have an electrical gremlin.
