I'm trying to find my ambient air sensor.
My HEVAC is randomly showing from +18 to -40 with an occasional cheque book. I reckon it must be either a bad connection or the sensor failing.
With a VIN number prior to 381430 and nothing behind the front grill, mine must be the one shown on diagram 4, Rave section 82/2. However I can't find any other reference in Rave indicating where this is. Up through the glove box? Down through the plenum? Or something else?
Just in case, could anyone supply a part number for the sensor in case i have to change it?

Thanks in advance.

IIRC some were on the front of the condensor and some where as you say behind the Land Rover badge on the front grille....

Just looked at RAVE...never knew on some it was mounted under the dash fascia somewhere...what a stupid place to put it!!

i'e whipped the front grill off and had a good nose around (quite easy as the condensor is in the garage!) but no sign of a sensor anywhere. RAVE shows a sensor in a 'box' or in an air input but as it's only a line drawing pointing to the plenum I can't picture where it is.

Hi pal, you sure its not behind the grill, mine was well hidden. If it is there the part number is JTF100270. They can be replaced with an appropriate socket on plenty of extensions to lock it into the mounting bracket. Have not had experience of the earlier one's. Regards:)

Why would you have an ambient air sensor for the Hevac anywhere near the plenum?

Thanks for your thoughts but I've got the grill off and my air con condensor is in the garage so there aren't many hiding places left for the little bugger.
Then, as I say, RAVE shows another location, that fits with my VIN number, up around the plenum but I can't find another reference to this in my RAVE.

Ambient air temp sensor on early cars is mounted in L/H heater blower inlet. To see it you would need to remove pollen filter box. Then all will be revealed. Later one is in front of condensor to R/H side behind grille.

Why is life with a Rangie never simple? RAVE shows them both on the left or nearside of the car.
I think that it's time for less reading and more spannering.
I'll report back when I defrost.

hi you will only get a it if you take the wipers off scuttle off top of pollen filter then its down the right hand side twist it and pull it out.
