What is the driving position like in a defender?

My old employer often had hired 90 commercials on hire from SHB and after sitting in one, well more like after taking 5 minutes to get myself in, I did my very best not to have to drive one.

Was the bad driving position due to been a commercial and having a bulkhead? Are the "normal" 90's with rear seats any better?

I am 6'1 and 17 stone, so not slim by any means!!

Steve

nope, they are all like that im afraid :( you can buy a few mods to help, like seat rails that allow them to go further back, bulkhead removal bar. but if you find it too cramped as standard then maybe better off buying a disco.

sorry :(

maybe hire one again for yourself to have a go over a weekend? give you a better idea if you can live with it or not.

Erm I'm slightly larger then you and all I had to do was move the seat back. Its amazing how strange a defender is to drive at first but after a week or two you soon adapt. I drove 650 miles in it in one day the other week to no ill affects.

Maybe not on you there wasn't. With all that weight pushing down on yer pedals the same can't be said for your landy.;) :D :D :D

why? Is nelly attempting to work on his landy again?:p

Think the smell of burning was in relation to me having a freelander yet asking a question about a defender, maybe thinks that the freelander is about to go up in smoke!!

Just thinking of the future, FL is just running fine at the mo, doors havnt fallen off yet, hasnt blown up and it all still works......... and yes, it has got wet!

Thanks for the answers, I thought they may do some aftermarket bits to make them a touch more comfy. FFS even the new 90 I tried (the one with the ford engine in it) had seats the same as a football stadium!!

i had 1 of the new 90's last thursday and friday and it fookin awfull i'm about the same size and weight as you and my 56 plate 90 is far more roomy than that!
i slide my seat right back then 1 click forward then tilt the backrest hard up against the bulk head plenty of space for me .

the new 1 if i do that my knees are rammed up tight on the dash:mad:

I fit fine into our 109 Series III, but I'm 5'11" and about 16 1/2 St. My son who is 6'4" and a bit touch over 20st (A Saracens U17 Prop-Forward/Lock Forward) seems ok but he is yet to try and drive, having only just taken his first lesson!:rolly:

**** me, your all fat bastards ;) seems that everyone has the seat right back with it tilted onto the bulkhead! even me at 5'8 and 11 stone.

Funny thing is though, the girlfriend has to have it right forward, but thats not far enough either! cant dump the throttle all the way on the hills :D
