Hi all

Just bought my first discovery. Now that I have looked under the rear carpet I wish I hadn't. But thats another story.
Can someone tell me how to remove the glass from the drivers door please. Do you remove the upper frame? I have to replace the regulator and the grip channel so guess that the glass comes out. any help is appreciated.
I have not got a Haynes manual yet. (or is there a better manual, hard or pdf)
Thanks all

Roger,

For a free manual you won't do much better than the RAVE.... Search round this forum and you'll find plenty of links to it.

:welcome2:

Erazmus

I am totally new to this thread/posting/forum malarchy so hopefully I am replying to you.
Thanks for that, I have heard about this RAVE before but not a clue what it is about

ok, the RAVE cd is a copy of the Land Rover manuals for a number of cars. If you put RAVE into the search box at the top of the page and follow some of the links that are suggested you'll find links to where you can download from.

However, it is LARGE (500mb plus) so best to set it downloading and then go make a cup of tea.

You'll find this out when you get RAVE, but the glass doesn't have to come out. Door trim off then the regulator / motor can be removed (carefully) from inside the door. You do need to tape the glass in the raised position.

old clothes peg is better split in half as a wedge as glass will need to come up and down during removal to get at bolts etc once back in shutting window will reseat glass

OK, So the gripper can be forced on while the glass is still in?

Gripper doesn't have to come out unless it's rusty as a very rusty rusty thing. :D

The channel under the gripper takes two of the rollers on the mechanism.

Should be a diagram on the Rave I think.

Yep, the gripper is rusty as a rusty thing and the fixing lugs are sheared off. It has been absolutley mullered. I have the new gripper, seal and regulator. Just need to sort RAVE out and get the glass out.

OK had enough now. I have downloaded an ISO file, burned the image to CD. I can get the tutorial to run but not the main program. I get a RAVE icon but it just shows the one title page. Please can someone put me out of my misery?

Cheers:doh:

Sorted, just had to click on the pic.

thanks all for the help. If you have any tips on the removal of rusty grippers then please reply.

cheers:)

There are 5 bolts holding the frame in place, 2 inside the door at the bottom 2 at the
top one on the back edge above the door lock and one under the splash
sheet above the interior handle oh and a torx screw on the front edge above the hinges.

Getting the old gripper of is easy if its that rusted... Getting the new one on is a pain
in the ass. The way i did mine was placed a folded up piece carpet on the ground, stood up the glass on it, tape the rubber in place then get a long piece of 3x2 about 8ft
stick one end under something that wont move, hold the glass between your knees guid the gripper track with one hand and leaver with the other one on the timber.

Sorry very long winded but works.

Thanks everybody. All done. I must admit that I did resort to the rubber mallet. Now its onto the rear floor.
