both the one on the drop arm and one on front of swivel housing, ive never seen a drop arm removed like that ,ive allways got them off with pullers and old half shaft with big hammer ,top brg seat can be removed with 12mm bolt with head ground just to fit with bolt going thru arm and winding out with nut there isnt alot to get hold of even when new

Right cheers guys. I now know its 1 of those 2 but i need to get under there tomorrow to find out which 1 is at fault. A big thanks busterbus for the detailed guides :clap2:

Had an advisory notice on my MOT saying "offside drag link end ball joint has slight play".

Would i be correct in saying this is the track rod end? And if so is it easier to replace the complete thing instead of playing around with the rubber?
Wotcha. Had the same thing yesterday. Bit you'll need is TIQ000010. Cost me £25 from JGS4x4. Now read that you have a disco 1, so the above is not for you as it's for a disco 2. Doh!!!

The offside ball joint, ( on a TD5 D2 ), is clamped onto the end of the drag link, the nearside is adjustable/replacable.

Many say that, even if the nearside one is gone its best to replace the whole thing, however, I replaced the nearside one, and, after 2 years, the offside is still ok. ( I,ll know at the end of Jan, as its MOT time ).

Be sure that its the drag link and not the track controll arm, as some testers can get these mixed up.

Del.
Haha I recently changed mine as part of my mot said offside drag link worn. So canned drag link assy. Both joints and rod. Then took back he said wrong joint. He had meant track rod as you say so had to take back and swap that too. Did the fool apologise for his error? Nope tried to blame someone else who had nothing to do with the mot.
