the prt is the mod  :p

I thought the black cased PRT was standard fit on facelift models? Might be wrong though.

It would be good if the mech pump could still run to back up the EWP, but that would negate the power saving. I think it comes down to how much you are willing to risk to get the rewards. I'd probably go the whole hog and hope for the best - just have to keep a close eye on the temp gauge ;).

it's still classed as a mod, but that's symantics really, and the temp guage is pants in the extreme.
fit a low coolant alarm ;)

Yes I've been thinking of doing just that - temp gauge paranoia is one more thing to distract you while driving I suppose. And yer ears iss usually unoccupied if the missus ain't in t'other seat.

Electrical systems are getting better and better as the years go by. I'd be willing to take a punt on it. The guy from DC was very helpful and fast about my enquiry.

when you fit it take plenty of pics and do a write up, the mods'll put it in the how to section ;)

Yes I was going to document it and post it up, hopefully will help some others. I really do think this would be an almost essential upgrade for a 1.8 - as you said earlier they tend to harakiri eventually, and if this helps prevents that then I'm all for it :).

These guys are the UK distributor fr the DC range. Spoke on the phone with them a while back, top blokes and really helpful.

Also, I'll probably renew the coolant hoses when I do it, I'll get silicone or urethane ones if they're out there. No point is spending all that dosh just to have it spoiled by a burst hose eh?

should be okay unless head was really hot when gasket first went ,in which case it will never be fixed

know what you mean

my local engine centre, who charged me a measly £55, skimmed pressure tested and checked it out.

they said they've never had one back that looked that good, and they do a lot.

but you never know hence all the precautions.
