Evening all,
Iam about to replace bulkhead windscreen seal, the windscreen rubber and the seal between top of the windscreen and the cab roof on a 110 double cab.Can anyone help ie how do I get at the top seal or will the windscreen come out giving me access to both?or is there an issue of lro with a step buy step in it. I have searched the forum but only gettin bits n bobs and not double cab specific.
Cheers

No, it won't just come out. You'll have to loosen the roof down the side of the vehicle so that you can lift the roof a cm or two. Edit - at least.

Ok,didn't think it would to be honest, but had to ask, take it the head liner has to come out and the bolts will be there winkin at me?how many? Would you say it's a straight forward enough job? And finally any handy hints or tips for the jobs ahead.

Cheers,Al203 for the quick reply

Yes, the roof lining will need to come out.
I can't remember exactly how many bolts there are across the front, 6 possibly 8. There are loads along the sides of the vehicle. Even more on yours with it being a 110 double cab. Mines a 90
I've arrowed the bolts you can see in this picture. The only one meant to be red is the one at the front corner because that's a screw. Don't know how the nearest arrow went red.

It's an easy enough job, just time consuming.
The screen frame to roof and screen frame to bulkhead are easy to do.
Use the cord method for the windscreen itself with vaseline to lubricate it. Quite a few threads on here describing how to do it.

What can i say,you are an absolute star! Cheers for the picture and info, I know it will be a great help. Will let you know how I get on.

Yeah got the usual leaks into the foot wells.the windscreen seal is cracked badly so Iam gradually replacing things as I go along and the other two seals look pretty knackerd,so I thought I might as well do the lot and have a look at the bulkhead as well it sounds pretty sweet from what I can see and hear but want to look once the screen is off.

Good luck, mate. Lifting the screen to bulkhead seal off will be a time to hold your breath. Fingers crossed it's ok.

Ha ha I know, going to hopefully start it all tomorrow night. I haven't been this nervous since me missus went into labour with our first tiddler! Will let you know anyway how it looks when it's all revealed.

It's a Land Rover, what could go wrong?
Hopefully, bulkhead is ok. When you get it apart, it's sort of a rule on here that you post pictures :D

I got the roof loosened windscreen out and bulkhead seal changed ,and it doesn't look to bad, have took some pics so you can see for yourself as soon as I sus out how to attach them.i have ran in to a slight problem, is there an inner and outer seal? The inner being the latex one actually attached to the roof running from side to side and it sits in a recessed slot.and the outer being the foam rubber seal replacement.because when I lifted the roof there was only the back latex one and it had been sealed with silicone.so do actually need the foam rubber one and if so where about on the top of the windscreen should it be positioned I seem to be having trouble getting the roof level and flush against the top of the windscreen supports instead I've got 1/4 inch gap both sides??i was breezing along with the advice you gave me earlier but this has got me stumped, didn't get to bed till 1am last nite trying to sort it,and really don't want bodge it ..

Black latex? There should be one rubber seal in the top. Was on my roof anyway. Part number MTC4994, if I remember correctly.
It pushes in to a recess along the front of the roof and presses on to the top of the screen frame, when the roof gets bolted down.
What are you calling the windscreen supports?

Sorry, I mean the windscreen pillars,I've ordered a part I don't need, have been trying to fit an mtc6960 as well as the black latex one no wonder the roof won't sit properly. So are you supposed to seal the front edge once it's bolted down and seated properly or is there no need?

Sorry, about that! Hopefully this will mean I can stop loitering all furtive like by every defender I've seen over the last week trying to sus out how this seal fits.

I think MTC6960 might have been the seal used for series models.
I'm still not sure what the windscreen pillars are? Is that trim to go up the inside of the windscreen frame by the door pillars?

The sides of the windscreen that become the actual door frame when it's in are they called the A posts may be?? Well the roof wasn't sitting flat on the top of there both sides of the windscreen, but now I know why,I think.

the side of the windscreen is a sort of extension of the A post. The A post being the front door pillar that the hinges fit on to.
Pleased you've got the roof seal sussed. You might also want to look at the vent flap seals and the rubber grommet where the accelerator cable comes through the foot well. There are other holes in the bulkhead where other cables come through.
