Doors won't lock/unlock

I've got a 2007 Freelander 2. The doors won't always lock using the key fob. Sometimes if the vehicle is unlocked and I press the "unlock" button I can hear a click and if I then press the "lock" button it'll lock OK. It's now getting to the stage when I'm having trouble getting the car to lock using the key fob. Most annoyingly, sometime all the windows come down if I try to unlock it without holding the unlock button down for three seconds! Anyone any ideas?

had this myself, exactly as you describe.

believe it or not, it's a fob issue. I thought it was a battery thing, so I split the case in anticipation of soldering in a new battery, BUT turns out it was a connection issue. Packed the back of the case out with a piece of paper folded twice, glued it back together and I've not had any more trouble for over 6 months now.

If you go over to Freel2.com you'll find full details of how to split the case without damaging it. Before you solder a new battery in, try a piece of paper.
