door mirror help please

hi guys
ive just pick my car up from our local garage after they took it for the i.t.v (m.o.t)and the spanish have broken my drivers mirror its all floppy and loose now with none of that clickie action!i stood there telling them it was fine when i dropped it off here but at the end of the day its my word against theres a real pain.just taken the mirror of the car and the mirror is moving up on the shaft has it been snapped of inside can it be repaired or im i to assume this is now a throw away job:doh:
