Door check strap

is the door check strap an mot issue....... Or the lack of one


Since owning the car the strap on the rear door has been stiff and noisy

Lubricated it regularly in the hope ir would free off...... Well today it did but not in the right way ...... The internal bit has ripped itself off

I've taken the pin out and removed the offending piece which has broken off

So at the moment no strap on rear door .......

Mine appears to have suffered the same fate - the strap is still attached to the door, but the piece that was attached (welded? Bolted?) to the inside of the B pillar, is just kinda floating around in there....

It's more a device to stop damage to the hinge, so not specifically an MOT failure.

That's good ..... Looking at the mangled bit of metal I got out of there I don't think welding it back in is an option

I'll live without it .... Or might see if I can bolt it in if there is enough clearance when the door is shut

Could just go the old-school method, and bolt on a piece of leather strap?
