Does anyone know what this is? It's lurking under my cubby box 300tdi 90

So I was snooping around under my cubby box today and I found this thing. It appears to have wires that go to a box, but without taking the cubby box out I can't get a good look. The cubby box is on woodern rails to lift it up to make room for whatever it is and it has this connector on it which I've never seen before. I'm sure it's really obvious so ready for some banter.

It's 300tdi 90. It's got one of those crappy factory fitted key fob immobilisers where you press the fob on a metal plate on the dash to deactivate it, so I'm sure it's nothing to do with that.

I found that in a mates 90. Are they ever plugged in or is it just cos the looms come with it there?

Thanks, I'll just leave it be in that case. I have removed the EGR but I can't be bothered unscrewing the cubby just to get it out. I have learnt taking things to bits will usually reveal more unwanted surprises!
