Hi All,

Do Defenders come with diff-locks as standard, I have looked at a couple locally and both had them but were they an option?

Excuse my ignorance but I am going to collect my first Landy, a 1989 Defender 90 SWB 2.5TD, on Saturday. The area I am collecting from is forcasted for the possibility of heavy snow showers so I knowing I have diff-lock when I get there would make me feel more confident.

The reason I ask is that I am distance-buying the Defender, a Landrover expert is going to check it all out tomorrow and send me a report. If it passes, the first time I see the car 'in the flesh' will be when I collect it.

I used to own an old Landcruiser when I lived in Australia but diff-locks were an aftermarket option. Mine was kitted with aftermarket airlockers front, middle and rear and nothing could stop it! Well nearly but the winch would get me out of serious bother.

Cheers,
Boggie

It will have a diff-lock but it works on the transfer-box and not the axles. LR didn't off an axle diff-lock but there are a few aftermarket suppliers however any vehicle fitted with one would be advertised as such.

Thanks Chaps!

So, as long as I have either the front wheels or rear with grip, I will be ok but one wheel on each axle spinning and it is time to jam something under a wheel.

Cheers,
B
