Dodgy New Brake Calipers .

Hi all , I tried fitting a new brake caliper from Paddocks to my Defender today only to discover that it won't quite fit . It appears that the slot in the centre of the caliper hasn't been machined deep enough with the result the bolt holes are about 1mm short of covering the threaded hole properly , even with the caliper hard up against the edge of the new disc , which is identical to the old one . Has anyone else experienced this ?

Not experienced this one, have had some rubbish rear slaves. Had some rear drums that were not even round! Poor/fake parts are rife today. Trading standards are swamped with issues on all sorts of stuff.
Send them back.

I had a similar issue. I resolved it with a file and a dremmel.

I think it's down to tollerance.
What make of Defender do you have and what make of caliper did you purchase ?

Are they the cheap crap in a green and white box?
We had some and sent them back, no mater what you did they would not work. You could bleed them fine but they would not exert any pressure on the pads.
Bought Britpart elsewhere which are just fine.
Paddocks have been supplying some proper rubbish recently and been hard work.

Hi , it's a "peac" ? from China although bought from Paddocks . They are a less substantial looking unit than the old Lockheed that came off it . The holes for the pad retaining pins are also very small . The depth of the groove at it's deepest is 30mm on the Lockheed but only 25 on the "peac" . Quite a difference .It's a 1995 110 .

Yes indeed , they are the cheap crap in the green and white box ! I'll get on to Paddocks now and send them back .

Lockheed aren't what they once were.

I'd be tempted to clean up/repaint the caliper body and fit these ...

about 3-6 months ago i had bolts that hang out and dont fit correctly.. was a fk up from britpart/allmakes

Confession time .. I ordered calipers for a 90 by mistake .

Personally I would not fit anything to a braking system - on which lives depend - which was made in china.

I agree with the above and to be honest even if you buy a new one rather than rebuilding your current ones (which I am currently doing) I would still fit stainless piston before fitting. If they are new you dont need to do anything else just remove the old piston and slot the new one in.

Doesn't matter, send them back and buy elsewhere.
Comes to it when Britpart are regarded as the better option.
