Gents,

I have had a search, but little seems to come up about what discs / pads to get, and where to get them for the P38.

The motor was "meant" to come with new discs and pads, but I think I'm being bumped on them. So rather than messing about trying to hassle them out the previous owner, I am thinking of just cutting my losses and cracking on and ordering a new set myself.

I'm only planning on keeping the motor for a year or so, so don't really want to be spending a fortune. I noticed www.4x4autoparts-online.co.uk are doing front and rear, discs and pads for around £100 delivered. Seems a decent enough deal to me.

But it looks like Bearmach discs with Mintex pads. Have experience with Mintex, but not Bearmach. Are they okay?

Island 4x4 are doing an all Britpart setup for £90, but figured it's probably worth the extra tenner just for the mintex pads if nothing else.

Does this sound reasonable? Like I said, it's only for a year or so, but I will be shipping my kids about, so want to make sure they are better than discs made of soft cheese.

britpart is a bit of a swear word around here to be avoided at all costs, don't know about Bearmach but like mintex.

Bearmach & Britpart are sometimes exactly the same parts. Others have fitted Britpart discs some OK some found the holes drilled out of place. Mintex are fine on the P38.

:rolleyes:I don't understand the 'only going to have it for a year so I'll fit cheaper parts' idea. Cheap parts are cheap quality. You can get Mintex discs and pads from Paddocks or Craddocks for 130.00 approx. inc vat. Then you know its done right. These are brakes for chrissakes!

As long as you break them in properly anything should be fine. No heavy braking for the first 250 miles other than in emergencies of course. Don't sit at lights with the foot brake on.

That's fine. Hence why I was asking. I would rather pay £30 more to get better quality. So I'll go look them up now. Thanks.

By fitting cheaper parts, I really meant I wasn't up for fitting genuine discs and pads, or brembo or similar, that while maybe excellent, cost at least double. When I'm only planning around 6k in this motor. But if it's only an extra £30 for better quality on each corner of the car, that sounds fine.

However, I didn't know the quality of Bearmach, having never come accross them before, hence asking the question. They seem to have reasonable reviews, albeit for other parts, and appear better thought of than the likes of Britpart.
