Hi all ok iv read through nearly all the post about Transexual boxes!

I want the 1.2 ratio as id like to hear the police sirens on the motor way ;) and maybe save a little fuel???

SO I just want to run a few things past you lot before i get my hammer out.

Options are

1)Get a Discovery transfer box LT230 96 onwards low miles & take everything out & then put everything in my TD5 LT230 casing

2)I do believe the 200tdi had different shafts & were not oil drilled? so anything 96 onwards are oil drilled & will go straight in my td5 casing.
Anybody done the same?
Iv heard its a bit of a faf just taking a disco box trying to get it on td5 with diff lock & speed sensors & handbrake etc?

3)I have thought about the over drive but £1,500 i thinks to much & just something else to go wrong & extra oil changes.

4)I have thought ash-crofts but i still think 650 is a bit high plus iv got to take it down there n wait!

or do i buy a gear set off them & fit it my self? iv got pullers etc they arent to comlicated are they? i have rebuilt engines before but never gone into the bowels of a transferbox.

please only cheeky constructive advice not "just buy a td5 disco n get rid or your fender" or feel the rath of my size 11 boot.:D

Mucho thankyo.

use disco 300tdi but 200 would do input gear is cross drilled and can replace ones that arent, swap speedo,,you could buy parts and swap but that would entail setting preload with shims on brgs which is straight forward but you wont have a full range to hand, allways check input gear is cross drilled as many havent

Just thought I would poke this thread again.

I have a 2006 TDF 'fender plus witting in my garage is an LT77/LT230 from my old D1.

Would the gears from the D1 LT230 go into my 110 one? What exactly needs changing, surely the speedo drive should remain the same as low range is the same.

What exactly needs changing?

How much of a job is it, can it be done in the vehicle?
