Hi, Guys following a few years away from the green oval, I have just got me a 2002 TD5 Disco E spec :D, ie No sunroofs, No air suspension, and No ACE. What I need to know is what is the best diagnostic kit? Nanocom or Hawkeye?
The things I need to do first is: 1. switch off single point locking. 2. switch on auto locking when you drive off. 3. Recode/program a new key fob as I only have one.
The have the ability to read and erase fault codes.
Which one would you recommend and whats the best place to get it from?
No doubt I will be posting problems, but hey its all the fun of a Landrover.Cheers Guy's:)

With the last upgrades the Hawkeye is not far from Nanocom. Nanocom is a bit smarter(used via laptop otherwise is quite artless) but is not available now and the new model might not be cheaper. Meanwhile Hawkeye is more human friendly, easyer to use and available now......I checked out and it seems here is the best price Mail Order 4x4 Bearmach HAWKEYE Landrover Diagnostics Tool

It's up to U to decide mate, U can wait for the new Nanocom, try to buy an used one, or go for the Hawkeye........anyway good luck

I am thinking about buying a Hawkeye for my TD5 Disco 2 with ACE.

The price today is about £320 including VAT of nearly fifty robbing quid.

If I buy it for my Disco 2, is that IT?

Or do they start demanding more cash to cover more functions?

Are they any good these things?

As far as I know for the 270(excl vat) U get the latest version with a free unlock code(it means U can unlock it for the Disco Td5) and will have all the functions from the list without extra cash...........if U already spend some money put a little bit more and by the upgrade cable too.......without it U can't download free updates later.

I bought a hawkeye direct from Bearmach, very helpfull people. It can do what you want, and when the upgrade comes out in a few weeks it will be free. The only thing is you will need a cable to go to the pc and a power source, which are extra. It also covers the petrol models and the auto box.

Am I right in thinking it doesnt do "live data" for the td5?

what will the latest upgrade be?

thanks

Dave

looking at the hawkeye pdf (the bit where all the boxes are checked or not) it says it doesnt do the discovery 2 td5 ECM data

what does that mean?

The "ECM data" means the tipe and identification datas of the electronic module itself........i.e. for the petrol engine will display Bosch M5.2.1 .....for ABS : WABCO..... and so on

For Td5 it has Read/Clear DTC's, Live data, Actuators and Programming and these are the important ones..........don't bother with "ECM data", its quite useless.

what u need is a rovacom, see blackboxsolutions web site.
does p38 disco 1,disco2 plus a few others with td5 engine

Hi guys, thanks for the info I have found a new Hawkeye on flee bay for £299 plus postage, seems a good deal. But they don't give a price for the cable to connect it to the PC so you can get the up-grades, I will contact then and get a price and let you know.

Be aware, to get upgrades U need a 12v power source too, it goes along with the upgrade cable to supply the unit

Email from them today ..... helpful chap.
I think I will buy one ...

Hello,

OK, To purchase the Hawkeye the most cost effective way is via our website
( as I said - you may be entitled to free delivery depending on your post code area )

Hawkeye Part number BA 5070 £271.00 Plus VAT

Just click on the link I sent you earlier or this one
Mail Order 4x4 Bearmach HAWKEYE Landrover Diagnostics Tool
- its all on the same page

The cable for updates is BA 5079 and is only by special order - however once you have placed your order you will be sent a confirmation email - if you quote your order number and confirm in writing that you wish to add one to the order by sending me an email - I can add that to your order.

It needs the cable/adapter plug BA 5079 at £18-20 plus the vat
it seems you need a power cable too
BA 5079A - this is again about £18-20 plus the vat

Failing that - you can call any member of the team on 01752-898820 to place your order manually - however telephone orders are subject to standard postage fees of £5.50 plus vat for "most" UK postcodes ( let me have yours and I can check it for you ).
Update 3 should be either in the box or pre installed. Update 4 is not yet available - and is overdue - but is due soon - fingers crossed

Master unlock code is about £850 plus vat so no you probably do not want to know...

Kind regards

John

You want a Nanocom, will do all of the above and more. There is a new model due out anytime now.

Hi - Can you defiantly re-programme Keys with the Nanocom? (I have a new uncut key - but the local LR Main Stealer wants an arm and both legs to programme it!)

Also I see there is an new version coming? Is it out yet? does anyone know the price?

I also have just had the ABS light come on :(and the alarm kept gong off the other night for no apparent reason.... I guess the Nanocom would identify the problems and tell me what to look at to fix these faults?

Thanks

You can definitely program keys with the nanocom.

It will also read ABS faults etc.

There is a new version apparently, but people have died waiting for it ;-) This also makes the old one hard to find unfortunately :-(

Thanks David.
I have read that you can re-programme Rover 75 Keys?
Is this just an urban myth?

No sign of the new version - mmmm are they still trading?

Thanks

Graham
