Hi Guys,

Hopefully someone out there can help me with my discovery. When driving, the steering feels very light almost as if the power steering is working too well (if that's possible). It is particularly bad when towing my caravan (26ft twin axle) any side buffeting by other vehicles makes the
disco wander all over the road.I have checked the power steering and found no leaks and the reservoir is up to the normal mark.I am still running on the original springs but had new dampers fitted all round the back end of last year.Could the problem be the steering damper? as the car is now nearly 10 years old I suppose it could be getting weak.Any thoughts guys.
Thanks in advance for any help.

if it is getting lighter when you have the caravan on, are you putting too much weight on the hitch as this will lift the front and lighten the steering?

Just a thought but have you checked that the drop arm nut hasn't come loose as this would give you a very vague feeling on the steering.
