Morning all,

Does it matter what oil quality goes in a Td5 engine?
What i mean is, is it ok to put Asda or Wilkinsons fully synthetic oil in or is it better to put Castrol or Mobil in?
And what's the difference?

Thanks in advance guys

Andy

The difference is a lot… The Price.
If the specifications meets or supersedes the vehicle manufacturers spec. use it, with my disco I use Halfords branded oil which is manufactured by Comma, without any issues what ever that maybe.
Who knows what brand of oil went in when it was serviced by a main dealer, or an independent.

As above. The TD5 was a Land Rover engine designed from the outset to cope with a wide range of conditions and treatment. Meet the spec and viscosity and you won't go far wrong if you change it frequently. OTOH well worth buying decent quality filters.

Yes, that's pretty much what I do. I change it twice a year or about every 6000 miles, as well as the filters. Cheap oil and reasonably expensive filters. There's not a lot else you can do with a TD5 engine, as machining tasks are not recommended by Land Rover, so rebores, head and block skimming, crank regrinds and the like are out of bounds. So just keep changing that oil!
