got to work this morning and got a smell and hissing noise from under the bonnet, the top coolant hose has blown a massive hole in it just over the alternator at the bend. I did notice on the way to work that the temp dial had dropped slightly (due to loss of coolant i now know), i recon i may have drove approx 16 km with little to no coolant . Have i blown the head?!!!!?
I have had a known issue with coolant loss through a leak at the pump but i topped up regularly just never got round to fitting a new pump. the engine has never overheated so what would cause the hose to fail in the first place, just age? its a 2001 disco with 160,000 miles.
