The steering went very wobbly on our 200tdi at low speed and the NS front wheel collapsed - part of the hub / brake disc mounting had sheared off.

I will try to upload a couple of pictures.

Firstly has anyone else experienced anything like this?
My thoughts are so far (although my garage has not given an opinion yet) that the best option would be to find a complete front axle as the cost of all the bits would make it uneconomical to repair.
The advice I am looking for is what axle can I fit? Does it need to come from a 200tdi manual or will other similar ones fit eg 300tdi or auto? or maybe just using the hubs etc of a different axle?
its a K reg 200tdi with a KA chassis number.

Any views & advice appreciated so I can get back on the road ASAP.

Thanks

Jesus, never seen that before ! Im breaking a 300, got front axle if its compatible. Lucky no one got hurt! Grandparents live in Tunbridge wells so could deliver aswell ;)

tell yu what it looks like....

On Discos - a known fault is the brake pad wearing its way through the caliper until it rests on the hub. then it starts wearing its way through the hub until the hub shears off :(.

+1 on this, it nearly happened to me, in the end i got creative with some spots of welding on the caliper to hold the pad in the right place, and then flogged the dog to some dodgy Pole;)

I have noticed on my 300 that if the caliper is old and full of crud then the piston movement is irregular and will push the pad on only one side of the disc and so pushing the hub out of centre.

Usually showing up as a pulsing through the brake pedal.

Then this causes heavy pressure on the bearings until they collapse.

that would have been fun at 60mph

I dont see why you have to change the axle? just fit another hub assembly to it, there are always a few on ebay :)

Edit: i have realised there is no driveshaft sticking out !!!! Jesus that is a proper job. i still think you could find the bits cheaper than buying an axle.
