Hello i was wondering if anyone can help?
Can anyone aid me with an "idiots guide" to removing the front half shafts from my Disco. It doesnt appear to be as straight forward as the rear shafts.
Is there a way of working on it without touching the steering components?

I have a new differential to go in and need the shafts out.

Many thanks
Chris

hi Chris, when i replaced my front diff, i removed the front brake caliper retaing bolts and brake pipe securing bracket. Then i removed the track rod end from the hub. Then i removed the bolts that hold the swivel hub end to the axle tube,i think there is 8 bolts, and then pulled the entire hub end out including the halfshaft by 6 inches. I did this on both sides and then was able to unbolt and remove the diff.

No doubt someone else will have done it a different way to me.

Dave

You don't need to disturb the steering. Caliper off, hub off complete with wheel bearings, then you can pull the 1/2 shaft out complete with cv joint. Just tie the caliper up out of the way with a bit of string no need to mess with brake pipes or steering bits.
