hi can anyone tell me what the difference is between the air spring adjustable hitch and the steel spring one(i know the obvious) why can you not put the steel spring type on air????

Dont know if this helps. I recently got an air sprug 7 seater. It has a monster tow hitch fitted to the rear. It a landrover part, retro fitted by the previous owner in France. Its a big ugly thing, looks like it could tow a tank. Its got to come off as it sits so low that it grounds on the steep roads I drive on. Plus I dont have a trailer.I want to put the Dicso on Spanish plates, and I cant have a towhook if its not factory fitted. So if you want one and you can wait till March when I cross back to Uk your welcome to it.

Unless I'm mistaken the air sprung one is easily adjustable. There is a sliding plate with a bar through it. This is there to enable you to set the tow hitch at the correct level given the ride height you've set the air springs to.

Obviously you need some adjustment with the steel one but as the rear end will always be at the same height above the road you only need to adjust it once. That is where a drop plate comes in, if you need one that is.

From the diagram in the installation instructions, the Air Suspension version (STC50289AB) looks to have a slightly longer frame and different hole spacings, to the Coil Sprung version (STC50287AB) -

I recently fitted STC50289AB to my Air Sprung Discovery II

I'll look out for a Coil Sprung one to compare it with, when I'm at the LRO Show next month.

Thanks thebiglad. I thought that was the way I understood it. Tried it out today, pushed the button, yellow light came on, I waited for the back end to jack up like one of those poxey Citreons. Nothing. Having read your post I can see why. Enjoy France. Im up in a coupñe of weeks. Better than here but at least the petrols cheaper.

I think i'm right in saying that it should still "jack up" when in high range. Just press the button, yellow light comes on and the back end should lift 50mm or 2 inches.

If it's not, then something is amiss. You do have all doors and bonnet closed when trying this, don't you? Otherwise it won't work.

Got things to look at here. Tried it in high range pushed the switch. Light came on. Ding sounded. Light went off. no lift. Tried to move to low ratio . <cant move the stick. Stuck solid. only owned it a short while.probably never been in low ratio in its life. 2002 V8 only 24k. One previous owner.

Hi SL, I'm assuming it's an autobox?

If so, you need to put the main box in neutral before trying to move the trnsfer box lever.

If it's not been used much, it will be stiff, but just work away at it and it will come.

Yep its an Auto. Tried your advice and it worked. Re read the book again to make sure I am not thick. No mention of putting into neutral. If fact gives the impression that at less than 5mph with quote ( a little practise ) smooth transfer is easily carried out. Lost in translation perhaps?

Changing form hi to low works MUCH better with the car rolling (less than 5mph), and the more you use it the easier it becomes.

Oh and the air suspension will lift up in hi box as well.
