my 200tdi has 2 steering dampers on it and the steering is still light and all over the place, its easy to drive if your not a moron but still annoying, its had a few second hand steering boxes on it but still the same so how can i sort it? planning on sticking another steering box thats lying around on it over the next few days.
its nothing to do with tracking but that will be looked at just incase.

Sounds like a steering box issue to me, do you know if the one you have lying around is good?
Before you change it again I would just quickly check the steering dampers to make sure they are ok.

It isn't mine, its a friends who has it lying around in his unit so it will be good as he doesn't store **** or broken parts lol
the dampers should be fine but will check all this on wednesday as picking up a few bits and bobs tomorrow and then given it a full service and a full check over so will let you know how i can get on.
Ideally it could do with a reconditoned steering box but i dont like the price tags

Have you tightened the box up to see if that helps. On top.of box there should be a nut 19mm and allen key hole loosen nut and tighten alen key it ahould take any slack out the box.

If your struggling then videos on youtube will help alot and may be worth a try before changin box

it might be worth trying the following with assistance from someone wiggling the wheel first nip a bit of adjustment on the box you currently have, make sure the box you put on isnt as worn as the one you took off... https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/power-steering-box-adjustment.177716/

Then check the track rod ends and draglink ends for play, you can use a bar to check for vertical lift, get your mate to rock the steering wheel to test for lateral play. obviosuly your going to replace them if you fing any play in the;

final port of call is it could be wear in the column's uj's, engine off, ignition on (so the column is unlocked) wheels down on ground, mate wiggling the wheel left to right eyeball the uj's.

PS: does the disco have one of those stupid rubber flanges between sectrons of the steeting column - one of those rubber dampers being perished would give similar symptoms.

Mines the same at the moment. 33" tyres probably don't help but it was fine for the first 6 months of them being on.

On my second steering box and pump, changed all 4 track rod ends, steering damper, panhard rod bushes, radius arm bushes, tracking and wheel balancing done, wheel bearings are new only 200 miles ago...

The next 2 things I will try are the steering column with the rubber parts(have one spare lying about) mentioned above, and if that doesn't cure it last thing to check will be my swivel preload.

Hoping one of them will work as it's truly annoying keeping it in a straight line at speed.
