Disco 1 starter motor

Hello I am after some help please
I am on the isle-of-wight and just gone to start my auto diesel disco 1, the starter just spins no engagement. We are due to get the ferry back to the mainland tomorrow Sunday 15th
I am asking if anyone has a starter or knows someone that does, they need to be on the isle-of-wight
I know it's a long shot, I do have RAC cover but if I can fix it I would be happier

Have you tried hitting the starter with a bangy thing. It may get you going.

Manaul or auto gearbox?

Hi its auto, yes I've banged it when stationery and whilst cranking

Dont need many tools to get the starter off, might be able to strip it and jury rig something to get it running?
They are quite simple inside, might even be a video on youtube?

Thanks I only have a few tools with me as we are on holiday but now have the RAC coming first thing.

Does anyone know someone on the isle-of-wight with second hand parts if I can't get it running?
